Esquivel's Career Night Lifts Rambelles Past the Mustangs

SAN ANGELO, Texas - After a career night from Majik Esquivel scoring 31 points shooting 10-16 from the field and 5-9 from behind the arc, the Angelo State women's basketball team earned win number 13 on the season, defeating Midwestern State 84-61 Thursday afternoon inside the Junell-Stephens Arena.
 
The Rambelles improved to 13-3 on the season and are now 9-1 in Lone Star Conference action. The Mustangs fall to 6-10 overall and 4-6 in conference action. 
 
40 Minute Rundown
  • Madeline Stephens open the scoring for the Rambelles 15 seconds into the contest. 
  • The Mustangs recorded their first lead of the night at the 5:37 marker in the first quarter when Kerbie Cash knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Mustangs a 6-4 lead. 
  • The Belles ended the first quarter trailing, 17-14.
  • The Blue and Gold reclaimed the lead at the 5:07 marker in the second half behind a fast break layup from Esquivel.
  • The Belles scored eight points in 58 seconds to give themselves a 26-21 lead with 4:09 remaining in the first half. 
  • The Belles headed into halftime with a 30-28 lead. 
  • The Rambelles started the second half on a 10-2 run extending their lead to 40-30 with 6:44 remaining. 
  • The Belles headed into the final quarter of action leading, 59-42.
  •  Esquivel's three from the corner at the 8:56 marker gave the Rambelles a,62-46, lead.
  • Addy Burns would score six consecutive points in the last minutes of action to extend the Rambelles lead to, 80-59.

  • Stephens came into the game needing eight rebounds to reach 1,000 rebounds, after recording 13 points and nine rebounds Stephens is the third player in program history to reach 1,000 career rebounds.

  • The Blue and Gold had three double-digit scorers in the contest with Esquivel recording 31 points, Lumsden 19 points, and Stephens with 13 points.
