Rambelles Defeat Sul Ross State 92-49

ALPINE, Texas - The Angelo State women's basketball team defeated Sul Ross State 92-49 in the first match up between the two teams Sunday afternoon inside of the Gallego Center.
 
With the victory the Rambelles improve to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in Lone Star Conference action, the Sul Ross State  Lobos fall to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN   
  • The Rambelles started the game on a 24-1 run lasting 6:56 until Tamaiya Mims knocked down the first field goal of the contest for the Lobos, making the score 24-3 with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
  • The Lobos would go on a 6-0 run to close out the first quarter bringing the Rambelles lead to 33-13 heading into the second quarter of action.
  • The Rambelles opened the second quarter scoring the first seven points of the half behind layups from Madi Lumsden, Madeline Stephens and a three pointer from Majik Esquivel.
  • Stephens would score nine consecutive points for the Rambelles in the quarter extending their lead to 49-22 with 2:43 remaining until halftime.
  • Kenna Wood scored the last points of the half giving the Belles a 53-24 lead going into halftime.
  • The Belles hit two three pointers from Lumsden and Esquivel to begin the second half extending their lead to 33, 59-26.
  • Williams scored the last points for the Rambelles in the third quarter giving the Rambelles a ,67-37, lead going into the final quarter of action.
  • Briley Merket scored the team's first four points of the fourth quarter to give them a 71-38 lead with 8:38 remaining.
  • Taylor Grona scored the last points of the contest off a fast break layup assisted by Lauren Catherman giving the Rambelles a 92-49 victory.
 
GAME STATS
  • The Rambelles win the first match up between the two teams, 92-49.
  • This is the second time the Belles have scored 90 points this season the first time was on Dec. 21 when they defeated Colorado Christian 93-76.
  •  The Belles would have five different double-digit scorers with Stephens recording 17 points, Williams 16 points, Lumsden 14 points, Landry Morrow 12 points, and Addy Burns 11 points.
  • The Belles had nine different scorers in the contest.
  • Stephens recorded her sixth double-double of the year recording 17 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Williams recorded her fifth double-double of the year recording 16 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Lumsden recorded 14 points, her sixth consecutive double-digit scoring game.
  • The Blue and Gold shot 48 percent (40-83) from the field, 33 percent (8-24) from beyond the arc, and 100 percent (4-4) from the free throw line.
  • The Belles out rebounded the Lobos, 63-16.
  • The Lobos won the turnover battle, 23-14.
  • The Belles recorded 52 of their 92 points from inside the paint. 
  • The Belles would have 47 bench points in the contest the highest mark this season.
  • The Rambelles led for all 40 minutes.

The Belles will return home on Thursday, Jan. 9th as they take on West Texas A&M with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
