No. 11 Rambelles Close George and Ola McCorkle Challenge with 5-3 Win

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team capped off a 4-1 weekend at Mayer Field with a 5-3 win over Texas A&M International in nonconference play on day three of the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge Presented by West Texas Steel at Mayer Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Rambelles kicked off the scoring in the first inning, with Averie Gunther's hit-by-pitch putting a runner on base for Tatiana Trotter, who homered over the left-field wall for her first homer of the season.

The Dustdevils would tie the game in the fourth inning with a two-out, two-run double.

A two-out rally in the fifth inning would see Paris Brienesse singling up the middle before scoring on a triple by Gunther to give the Rambelles a 3-2 lead.

Trotter would score Gunther on a single down the third-base line to double the Rambelles' lead.

The Dustdevils would pull a run back in the sixth inning to make it 4-3.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Carter Smith, pinch-hitting, would give the Rambelles an insurance run on a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 5-3.

Raegan Sucher picked up the no-decision in her first collegiate start, allowing four hits and two runs in three innings. Matie Wolkow picked up her first win of the season, throwing four innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk while recording two strikeouts.

The Rambelles enter LSC play next weekend with a 9-1 record as they host Oklahoma Christian and Cameron next Friday and Sunday.
