The Matches
• Cameron: Angelo State will face Cameron for the 29th time in program history Thursday in Lawton. Okla. The Rambelles hold a 17-11 advantage over the Aggies. Last Season, the 'Belles defeated Cameron in five sets at the Junell Center. The last time Cameron was victorious over Angelo State was in 2007 when the Aggies won, 3-1 in San Angelo, Texas.
• Midwestern State: The Rambelles head to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on Midwestern State with Angelo State leading the all-time series 19-9. In 2009, ASU recorded a three-game sweep of the Mustangs at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center. The last time the two teams squared off in Wichita Falls, the Mustangs came out on top, 3-2, in 2008.
The Coaches
• Angelo State: Chuck Waddington (Rensselaer, 1993) took over the ASU program in 2008 and has since guided the 'Belles to a 48-38 overall mark. Waddington has propelled the Rambelles to back-to-back conference appearances in 2008 and 2009. Under Waddington's tutelage, the 'Belles finished third in the LSC Tournament last season.
• Cameron: Brianne Lowe (Mississippi State, 2003), a former right side hitter and middle blocker at Mississippi State, is in her third season at the helm of the Cameron University volleyball program. Lowe guided three Aggies to Second Team Lone Star Conference Honors last season after helping Cameron to a 17-12 overall record. Lowe came to Cameron from Berry College where she accumulated an 83-37 mark and an impressive 29-7 conference record.
• Midwestern State: Venera Flores-Stafford (University of Dallas, 1995) is the second-most winningest coach in Midwestern State volleyball history. In her seven years as the head coach, Flores-Stafford has put together a 126-93 record. In 2007, she led the Mustangs to their first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II postseason. Last year, Flores-Stafford and MSU finished the season with a 6-7 conference mark.
The Program
• The 'Belles went 2-1 last week dropping a 3-0 decision to No. 21 Abilene Christian in a non-conference contest in Abilene, Texas, before posting back-to-back sweeps of Lone Star Conference foes Southwestern Oklahoma and Central Oklahoma.
• Angelo State hit a season-best .435 as a team and held SWOSU to a negative hitting percentage last Thursday. The 'Belles defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 25-4 in the third set, the lowest amount of points scored by an opponent under head coach
Chuck Waddington.
• ASU is in third place in the Lone Star Conference standings with a 5-1 conference record.
• Waddington added assistant coach Qi Wang to his staff over the summer. Wang brings a wealth of experience to Angelo State as he was the former head coach at Florida Tech, Northern Michigan and Truman State. The China native led Truman State to the national title game in 2002 and 2004, and was named Division II National Coach of the Year in 2002.
• Former East Central standout Holly Hicks also has joined the 'Belles coaching staff as graduate assistant. Hicks enters her first year of coaching with numerous hours of playing time on her resume. The Round Rock, Texas native competed as a member of the Austin Juniors, one of the top club programs in the state, and earned an athletic scholarship to Texas Tech.
• ASU Volleyball was picked to finish third in the conference behind West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian University.
This Week's Opponents
• Cameron: The Aggies are looking to snap a three-match losing skid after dropping contests to Oklahoma City (3-1), West Texas A&M (3-0) and Eastern New Mexico (3-0) last week. Cameron's last victory came at Texas-Periman Basin on Oct. 2, when the Aggies defeated the Falcons, 3-1. After beginning LSC action with a 2-0 record, the Aggies have dropped four consecutive conference matches to fall to 2-4 in the Lone Star Conference. Cameron is 2-0 in five set matches and is led by Adrienne Lawson's team-best 2.57 kills per set and 3.73 digs per set. Jenna Risoli and Valerie Ogle split time at setter, as Risoli has 405 assists (5.87 assists per set) and Ogle has 246 assists (4.47 assists per set).
• Midwestern State: The Mustangs will host ASU after falling, 3-0, to West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas last Saturday. Midwestern State is 10-8 overall and holds a 4-2 Lone Star Conference record. MSU's two conference losses came at the hands of East Central (3-1) on Sept. 18 and WTAMU. The Mustangs are led by Hillary White's 171 kills and Taryn Westerman's 582 assists and 18 service aces. Senior middle blocker Lauren Bayer has recorded a team-best 76 total blocks this season which is good for second in the Lone Star Conference. Junior libero Kiara Jordan is second in the conference in digs per set with (4.88).
