SAN ANGELO – The second-ranked Angelo State softball team bounced back to earn a 6-3 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma, after dropping the opening game to No. 3 Midwestern State, 8-0, Friday at the Texas Bank Sports Complex in San Angelo. The Rambelles are now 22-6 all-time in LSC Crossover play.
After being shutout for just the second time all season in game one, the 'Belles (27-4) responded in game two scoring six runs on 11 hits against the Savage Storm (25-15). With one out in the second inning,
Alix Dean singled to right-center field, and eventually scored on a
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti double to right. The rally continued, as ASU's
Chelsey Walters drove in two more on a comebacker up the middle to give ASU a 3-0 lead.
Angelo State tacked on three more in the sixth, which was highlighted by
Morgan Spearman's single down the right-field line which plated a pair. ASU would go on to win, 6-3.
Claire Molina (14-1) picked up the win, after throwing her fifth complete game of the season. The junior allowed three runs on seven hits, while striking out seven.
In the opening game of the LSC Crossover, the 'Belles struggled against the third-ranked Mustangs (31-3). Angelo State had back-to-back singles in the first inning, but those were the only two base knocks ASU managed off the right arm of MSU's Brittney Tanner, the reigning LSC North Pitcher of the Week.
Midwestern State broke the game open with a two-out rally in the fifth inning. The Mustangs scored five runs on six hits, including a Mallory Mooney double to bring home two, and would go on to win the contest, 8-0.
Day two of the LSC Crossover Tournament will continue Saturday at the Texas Bank Sports Complex for ASU, as the Rambelles will take on Central Oklahoma at 11 a.m. Live stats, live streaming and live audio will be available for both games on AngleoSports.com, while Jeremy Bryant will broadcast the game live on KKSA 1260.
