No. 11 Belles Sweep Midwestern State in Wichita Falls

WICHITA FALLS – Maddie Huth had 12 kills and three blocks to help lead No. 11 Angelo State to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21) sweep of Midwestern State on Friday afternoon at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Belles (17-3, 10-1 LSC) swept the season-series against the Mustangs with the victory and have now won four straight matches and 12 of their last 13. ASU finished with a .259 hitting percentage in their 13th sweep of the season and finished the match with 53 kills.

“They (Midwestern State) played hard against us," ASU head coach Chuck Waddington said. "It was the second time through and they knew what we were going to try to do. We pulled it off and that's what we needed to do."

Kaelen Valdez led ASU with 15 kills and added four digs, while Alex Woolsey contributed 40 assists and eight digs. Shelbi Goode tacked on eight kills, while Chelsea Gibson, Leah McWilliams and Katie Coleman each had four kills. Shelby Wilt led the match with 16 digs three days with Huth adding seven digs in a week where they joined Woolsey as conference positional players of the week.

Shelbi Steward led MSU (4-16, 2-8 LSC) with 12 kills against the Belles.

Angelo State returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Cameron.

“They are going to be prepared and serve tough us," said Waddington of tomorrow's match. "They are going to give us a challenging match.”

Milestone watch: Woolsey enters Saturday's match with with 4,479 assists in her career and is only 307 away from Amber Nelson's all-time record at ASU… Woolsey has 788 assists this season… Katie Coleman is only one kill away from 400 in her career… Wilt has 920 digs in her two-year career and on pace to surpass 1,000 digs in the next couple of weeks… Kaelen Valdez has 247 digs this season and is only 57 from 1,000 in her career.
