ANGELO STATE VOLLEYBALL

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team opens its season on Friday with a pair of matches at the Rattler/Hilltopper Classic against Southeastern Oklahoma (1 p.m.) and St. Mary's (7 p.m.) at the Greehey Arena in San Antonio. The Belles, who come into the season ranked No. 15, will then play two more matches on Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma (1 p.m.) and St. Edward's (7 p.m.) in Austin.

Angelo State is coming off a 31-6 record in 2011 and won their first NCAA Division II tournament match in 20 seasons. ASU returns nine players from that team and also welcomes in seven newcomers. The Belles have been picked to finish second in the Lone Star Conference behind six-time defending champion West Texas A&M. ASU will remain on the road following this weekend with a trip to Denver, Colo. next weekend to play four games in the Colorado Premiere Challenge. The home opener will be at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 against Cameron at the Junell Center.
