SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 4 Angelo State softball team split day two of the ASU George McCorkle Classic with a 4-2 win over UT-Permian Basin and a 14-0 loss to St. Mary's.
The Rambelles used a strong pitching performance from
Sandra Serna and timely hitting form
Ambra Hill to beat UT-Permian Basin in the first game of the day.
Serna pitched seven innings while striking out seven and only giving up two unearned runs. It is her sixth win of the season.
ASU was down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning.
Morgan Spearman led the inning off with a double.
Kacie Easley earned a walk to put two on with two outs. Hill came up with a clutch two-run game-winning hit for a 3-2 lead after three.
Spearman tacked on an insurance run with a RBI single in the sixth inning. It was the third hit of the game for Spearman and she now has five multi-hit games this season.
The win moved the Rambelles to 9-3 on the season.
Angelo State took a step back in the second game of the day against St. Mary's (11-4).
The Rambelles failed to register a hit and gave up 14 runs in a shortened five-inning game ended due to the run-rule by the Rattlers.
Mary Kate McKay started in the circle and gave up six runs, five of them earned in one and a third inning of work.
Kacie Brann would enter in relief and walk eight batters giving up eight runs in two and two-thirds innings.
The Rattlers would score three innings in both the first and second inning and explode for eight runs in the third.
Angelo State will wrap up the ASU George McCorkle Classic tomorrow at 12 p.m. against Colorado State-Pueblo.
