BOX SCORE
SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 4 Angelo State softball team used a seven run third inning to beat Texas A&M-International, 9-2 at the St. Mary's Classic in San Antonio.
“We weren't real sure what would happen this weekend,” head coach
Travis Scott. “To be 5-0 after this weekend, I am just really ecstatic about our team. We have great depth and they are making my decisions difficult on making a starting lineup. That is definitely going to be to our benefit. We are excited about the team as a whole and it was a great weekend and now we have to get ready for Durant. It was a great way to start the season.
The Rambelles started the game scoring the first two runs with leadoff
Lauren Smith starting it off. The senior singled to left field and would score along with
Morgan Spearman on a
Darian Dunn single up the middle.
The Dust Devils cut the lead to 2-1 on an RBI single from Marlena Gallardo. The run woke ASU in the bottom half of the third inning.
Kacie Easley was the first to cross the plate on a sacrifice fly from
Ambra Hill after reaching on a single.
Amanda Wilhelm scored Dunn on her first home run of the season. The next three Rambelles reached base with two walks and one hit-by-pitch to bring up Spearman.
All Spearman did was take a pitch over the left field wall for not only her second home run of the season, but the second grand slam of the season. The score would be 9-1 after three innings.
Texas A&M-International would add a run in the fifth inning to make it 9-2.
Sandra Serna won her third game of the season throwing four innings. The junior only gave up three hits and one earned run. Freshman
Kacie Brann made her first appearance of the season pitching three innings and only allowing one hit.
The Rambelles will return to the field next weekend in Durant, Okla., at the Southeastern Regional invitational.
