No. 25 Rambelles Set for Showdown with No. 12 St. Mary's and Tarleton State

SAN ANGELO – The No. 25 Angelo State softball team will play five games in three days starting by hosting No. 12 St. Mary's on Thursday and then opens conference against Tarleton State in Stephenville on Friday and Saturday.

The Rambelles have won eight of their last 10 game and are 11-5 overall this season. ASU is hitting .348 as a team and limiting teams to a 3.15 earned run average. In the last 10 games, the Rambelles have increased their average to .388 while lowering the ERA to 3.05.

ASU is 5-2 at Mayer Field this season and 0-1 on the road. The Rambelles have hit .314 at Mayer Field with 40 runs scored on 53 hits. The team is slugging a .509 clip and has a .399 on-base percentage.

The top three of ASU's lineup has led the Rambelles this season.

Morgan Spearman, fourth in the LSC with a .500 average, has a .583 on-base percentage to lead ASU. She has six double, one triple and a home run to go with 12 RBIs. The senior is second on the team with 10 stolen bases. The Kennedale native has reached safely in nine-straight games.

Darian Dunn is hitting .479 on the season and is tops in the LSC with 32 RBIs. The next closest to Dunn is WT's Renee Erwin with 23 RBIs. The sophomore is tied with Spearman with 23 hits and 19 runs scored. Dunn has a .979 slugging percentage and leads the team with six home runs. The Frisco native has an eight-game hit streak.

The duo of Spearman and Dunn also has eight career grand slams. Dunn hit the third of her career at the Woodward WT Invite and Spearman has five grand slams.

Micherie Koria is third on the team with a .475 average and is No. 6 in LSC rankings. She is second in the league and the Rambelles leader with 13 stolen bases.  The junior has scored 18 runs and is tops on the team with six hit-by-pitches.

Rachel Moore has improved her average to .410 after hitting .571 against UTPB. The junior has 16 hits, four doubles and two home runs. She has 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored on the season.

Kenedy Urbany has been consistent both at the plate and in the circle. The freshman is hitting .375 with three doubles and two home runs. She is second on the team with 14 RBIs. She is also 6-1 as a pitcher with a 3.11 earned run average. The Helotes native has 28 strikeouts and limited UTPB to five hits over seven innings last Saturday.

Mary Kate McKay earned the other win in the doubleheader sweep. McKay pitched 5.2 innings of relief only allowing one run. She is 1-1 on the season and has a 4.02 ERA with nine strikeouts.

Sandra Serna leads the team in ERA with a 2.90. The senior is 4-3 on the season with 27 strikeouts. She has limited opponents to a .235 batting average and pitched two complete game shutouts.

The Rambelles one road loss came at the hands of No. 14 St. Mary's. The Rattlers are 18-3 overall and have won 14-straight games. Katie Nichols is the Rattlers top hitter with a .422 average. Nichols has three doubles, nine RBIs and 21 runs scored. Emily Brittian is the ace of the pitching staff with a 12-2 record and 1.56 ERA. Brittian was the winning pitcher in the first game between the two schools.

St. Mary's has won the last three matchups between the two schools but Angelo State has a 30-28 lead in the overall series.

Tarleton State enters the conference opener for both teams with a 8-12 overall record. The Texanns have lost four of their last five games. TSU is 1-6 at home this season. Mikayla Stogsdill is the team's top hitter with a .344 average.  Brenna Hennan is 4-5 on the season in the circle and is holding teams to a 3.10 ERA.

ASU owns a 34-12 advantage in the overall series with Tarleton State. The Rambelles have won 12 of the last 14 matchups but the Texanns won the last meeting in San Angelo last season. ASU will play at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The doubleheader with St. Mary's at Mayer Field will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
