No. 25 Rambelles Split with No. 12 St. Mary's

SAN ANGELO – The No. 25 Angelo State softball team split a doubleheader with No. 12 St. Mary's winning the first game 11-3 and losing the second 9-3 at Mayer Field on Thursday night.

The Rambelles moved to 12-6 on the season and snapped a 14-game Rattler win streak. St. Mary's is now 19-4 on the season and leads the season series 2-1.

ASU was down two runs after St. Mary's first baseman hit a homerun off starter Kenedy Urbany in the top fo the first inning.

The Rambelles answered in the bottom of the first in a big way. The top four hitters in the lineup each hit singles.

Morgan Spearman led off the inning with a single to right field and Micherie Koria followed it up with a single through the left side. Darian Dunn would hit a RBI single to score Spearman and Rachel Moore scored Koria from second on a single. It was tied at two after four batters in the bottom of the first inning.

Urbany drew a walk to load the bases to continue the inning. Megan Granado hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Dunn. Moore made it 5-2 scoring on a throwing error by the left fielder. Ambra Hill hit a bunt single and Spearman cleared the bases to make it 8-2 with her second home run of the season.  

St. Mary's scored a run in the third inning but Urbany would hold the Rattlers to just six hits.

Luz'Ce Baca, running for Tina Cisneros and Granado both scored in the fifth inning and Moore ended the game in the sixth with a single to plate Spearman. Spearman finished the first game going 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.
The Rambelles finished with 12 hits in the 11-3 win.

Urbany earned her seventh win of the season pitching six innings and striking out three.

The second game had ASU jump out to a 2-0 lead after three innings of play. Moore hit a solo home run, the third of the season for the junior, for an early 1-0 lead. Robinson led off the third with a walk and would score on a fielder's choice.

The bats would go cold as the Rambelles would only get one other hit off St. Mary's starting pitcher Vianna Gutierrez. The junior threw seven inning only allowing three hits and two runs.

The Rattlers got to ASU starter Sandra Serna in the third scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead. St. Mary's continued to score in the fourth scoring five runs on three hits and two walks. The Rattlers added a solo home run in the top of the seventh for the 9-2 final score.  

Serna was credited with the loss after giving up seven runs, six earned, over 4.1 innings pitched. Mary Kate McKay threw 2.2 innings of relief allowing two runs on three hits.

The Rambelles will start conference tomorrow with a doubleheader in Stephenville against Tarleton State with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
