No. 17 Rambelles Fall 8-6 to St. Mary's

SAN ANTONIO – The No. 17 Angelo State softball team tied St. Mary's in the top of the 6th inning but gave up two runs bottom in the 6th falling, 8-6, in the final game of the St. Mary's College Classic. 

The Rambelles (2-2) was out hit 10-7 and left eight runners on base. It was the third time this season ASU has scored more than five runs.

"We are disappointed in the outcome of this game but I know we are excited to get back on the field next weekend," head coach Travis Scott said.  

Angelo State jumped on St. Mary's (3-2) early. Morgan Spearman, who went 2-for-3, led the game off with a bunt single and would score after Darian Dunn reached on an error by the shortstop. Megan Granado drew a bases loaded walk to score Dunn to make it 2-0 after the top of the first.

The Rattlers responded with two runs off two hits to tie the game. After a scoreless second for ASU, St. Mary's scored four runs on two outs off starting pitcher Mary Kate McKay. Sandra Serna, making her second appearance of the season would get the final out of the second.

The Rambelles cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the third inning. Tina Cisneros hit ball through the right side that would score Dunn. After a pitching change, Micherie Koria would score from third base on a passed ball.

Serna would hold St. Mary's scoreless for the next three innings.

Koria would reach on an error and steal second base to move into scoring position. Two batters later, Lanie Robinson would put a bunt down that scored Koria to make it 6-5.

The Rambelles continued climbing back in the sixth. A single by Kenedy Urbany brought on pinch runner Luz'Ce Baca. The senior stole second base and would score on a single by Dunn to tie the game at six.

St. Mary's would figure out Serna in the bottom of the sixth inning. Nicole Sardelich would double to lead off the inning and score on a double by Tina Vidrine. The Rattlers would add an insurance run on the next play when Nicole Ritcher hit a single up the middle to score Vidrine.

Brittain, who was credited with the win for St. Mary's, pitched four and a third innings and gave up two hits and two runs.

Serna was the losing pitcher allowing two runs on four hits in four and a third innings.

Spearman and Maddy McGarity were named to the all-tournament team. Spearman finished the tournament with a .727 average and scoring five runs. McGarity hit .545 with six hits. Both players stole four bases.

The Rambelles will not be playing in the Southeastern Oklahoma State tournament next weekend due to potential inclement weather. Stay tuned to AngeloSports.com for future schedule updates.
