SAN ANGELO – The No. 12 Angelo State softball team will host Lone Star Conference leader No. 24 Midwestern State for a four-game series at Mayer Field starting at 5 p.m. on Friday.
The Rambelles are 24-9 and 7-3 in the LSC after splitting a four-game series with Cameron last weekend. ASU is scoring 8.55 runs per game which is No. 3 in the nation and No. 1 in the LSC. The team is also No. 11 nationally and No. 1 in the LSC with a .354 batting average while also leading the conference in runs (282), hits (319), RBIs (252), total bases (522) and stolen bases (68).
Angelo State has won 12 of its last 14 games and sits in second place in the conference behind Midwestern State. Seven of the nine losses this season have come by two runs or less.
Morgan Spearman continues to not only lead the team but the conference in several categories. She is the league leader in batting average (.510), on-base percentage (.626), hits (49), runs scored (45) and walks (30). The senior is also close to breaking an ASU record in runs scored in a career. Spearman is currently nine runs away from passing Brittney Cargill at 195 for most runs scored in a career. The Kennedale native has reached base safely in 26-straight games this season.
Micherie Koria is second on the team with a .448 average. She is currently second in the league and No. 26 nationally with 22 stolen bases. The junior has scored 37 runs with20 RBIs. She has walked 15 times and hit six doubles on the year.
Darian Dunn is the national leader in total RBIs with 62. She is tied for the league lead with 12 home runs and is hitting .402 this season. She is second on the team in slugging at a .822 clip. The sophomore has 43 hits with nine doubles and has scored 35 runs.
Rachel Moore is fourth on the team with a .368 average and has seven home runs on the season. The junior has scored 23 runs and recorded 29 RBIs.
Ambra Hill had the best average from last weekend. The sophomore hit .545 and scored three runs. The Big Spring native is hitting .319 on the season and has scored 22 runs. She has stolen seven bases on the year.
Kenedy Urbany is now 13-2 in the circle this season with a .355 earned-run average. She has pitched 100.2 innings this year and has 56 strike outs. At the plate, the freshman is hitting .350 with 24 RBIs. The Helotes native has six doubles and six home runs to go along with 21 runs scored. Urbany set the record for most innings pitched (11.0) and batters faced (50) in the 9-8 11 inning win over Cameron.
Sandra Serna had a good outing against Cameron but didn't factor in the decision. She threw 6.0 innings and struck out a season high seven. The senior has a season ERA of 3.50 on the season and is 7-4. The Albuquerque, N.M. native has limited teams to a .240 batting average.
Mary Kate McKay went 1-1 over the weekend but is the team leader in ERA at 3.48. The senior is 4-3 overall this season with 52.1 innings pitched.

The Mustangs enter the series ranked No. 24 with an overall record of 23-9 and 11-1 in the LSC. Midwestern State has won nine-straight games and 13 out of its last 14.
Kim Jerrick is leads MSU with a .418 average, .806 slugging percentage, .540 on-base percentage and 11 home runs. Katy Vandewater is leading the Mustangs with 36 RBIs.
Erin Knox has a 10-2 record in the circle with a 3.64 ERA for the Mustangs.
The Rambelles have won five of their last six against Midwestern State and hold a 20-14 series advantage.
The Rambelles will play a doubleheader at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and turnaround on Saturday and play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Mayer Field. Fans will receive half price admission all weekend. Koozies will be given to the every ASU student in attendance and the first 75 fans on Friday will receive a free t-shirt.
