SAN ANGELO – Mary Kate McKay limited No. 24 Midwestern State to five hits in two games as No. 11 Angelo State swept a doubleheader from MSU 10-2 and 9-1.

"It was a huge day for us to be able sweep Midwestern State and tie for the lead in the conference," head coach Travis Scott said after the game. "Mary Kate McKay was outstanding with the help from Micherie Koria and Ambra Hill playing stellar defense. Offensively, we continue to put pressure on people and get big hits. We are going to need it tomorrow because they have a great hitting team. Hope the fans will pack the park like they did today."

The Rambelles improved to 26-9 and 11-3 in the LSC after the two run-rule victories while Midwestern State dropped to 23-11 overall and 11-3 in conference. The two teams are now tied for the lead in the LSC race.

Morgan Spearman started game off with her first of three walks in the game. Kenedy Urbany brought her home with a single for the game's first run.

In the second inning, four runs came across on two hits and two walks. Carly Peters and Ambra Hill would score on a single by Micherie Koria while Urbany recorded two more RBIs with a double.

Up 5-0 after two innings, McKay gave up her first hit of the game in the third on a double that scored an unearned run. Tina Cisneros led off the bottom of the third with a single up the middle. Carly Peters and Hill would follow it with back-to-back hits and Spearman drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-1.

Darian Dunn moved into third on the single season RBI list with 64 after a single through the left side that scored Hill and Spearman. The two runs extended the lead to 9-1 after three innings.

Two more runs came across in the bottom of the fourth. Megan Granado hit a double and would score on a single by Hill. Hill scored one batter later with a single by Spearman for a 10-1 advantage.

The Mustangs scored another unearned run in the bottom of the fifth but Granado ended the game after picking off the runner at second base.

McKay only allowed three hits and two runs, none earned, in game one.

The senior pitcher decided to improve upon her performance in game two.

After a leadoff home run by Kim Jerrick and an infield single in the first inning, McKay would hold the Mustangs hitless through the next four innings for her sixth win of the season.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Rambelle offense found its groove scoring seven runs in the second inning. ASU had seven hits including Rachel Moore's eighth home run of the season. Seven of the nine batters would cross the plate.
Spearman hit her second triple of the year and extended her streak of reaching base safely to 28.

McKay kept dealing and had her team up 7-1. Urbany led off the fifth inning with a walk. Cisneros stepped up and hit a deep ball to right field for her fourth home run of the season. The home run put ASU up 9-1 for the run rule victory.

The Rambelles and Mustangs return to Mayer Field tomorrow at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader. It will be Youth Day at Mayer Field as all youth softball players will get in free with their jerseys on and their parents will receive admission for two dollars.
