Game One Box | Game Two Box

CANYON –
The No. 7 Angelo State softball team lost to No. 1 West Texas A&M 13-9 and 15-12 at Schaffer Park on Friday evening.

It is only the second time this season the Rambelles (37-12, 19-6 LSC) have lost a doubleheader in conference. West Texas A&M (48-4, 21-4 LSC) won its 21st consecutive game and 27th-straight at home. The two teams combined for 49 runs on 49 hits.

Game one was a slugfest between two of the top offensive teams in the nation. The Rambelles and Lady Buffs combined for 25 hits and 22 runs.

ASU erupted with two home runs in the first. Micherie Koria hit her first home run of the season in the top of the first inning. With Darian Dunn on first, Moore hit her 11th home run of the season to make it 3-0.

West Texas A&M responded with five runs off ASU starter Sandra Serna. The Lady Buffs recorded six hits and two walks in the inning.

The Rambelles responded with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Dunn hit a bases clearing triple to add three RBI's to her season total. Spearman scored her 70th run of the season to tie the LSC single season record. Dunn would score after a Moore sacrifice fly to make it 7-5.

WT hit a home run to lead off the second inning and Mary Kate McKay was brought in relief. Another West Texas A&M home run tied the game at seven. The Lady Buffs scored two more to take a 9-7 lead after just two innings of play.

After a scoreless third by both teams, WT extended their lead to 11-7 with two runs in the fourth. Megan Granado, who led the inning off with a single, would score on a Ambra Hill's fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 11-8.

Dunn's solo home run in the sixth inning, her 14th of the season, made it 11-9. West Texas A&M answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final 13-9 score.

Game two started similar for ASU in the top of the first. Moore hit her 12th home run of the season to give the Rambelles an early 2-0 advantage. Spearman, who led the inning off with a single, would score on the play to break the LSC single season record for runs scored. The senior now has 71 on the season.

Kenedy Urbany came out in game two and pitched well early on. She held the Lady Buffs potent offense to no hits or runs over the first two innings.

ASU took advantage and built a 5-0 lead after a two RBI double by Spearman made it 4-0. Granado doubled in the third to score Urbany to increase the lead to 5-0.

WT battled back in the third with four runs to bring the score to 5-4. Maddy McGarity scored from first in the top of the fourth after an error by West Texas A&M's pitcher to extend the lead to 6-4.

The Rambelles would score five runs in the top of the fifth including a three-run home run by Carly Peters to make it 11-4. It is Peters' seventh home run of the season. WT committed three errors in the inning but would respond in the fifth with five runs to cut the deficit to 11-9.

Urbany hit her ninth home run of the year, a solo homer, to make it 12-9 going into the bottom of the sixth.  The Lady Buffs would score six runs off Urbany and McKay, including a grand slam to take the lead at 15-12.

ASU had a chance with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning but were unable to score any runs.

Urbany was credited with just her third loss of the season.

With the two wins, West Texas A&M secured a share of the Lone Star Conference Championship. The Rambelles will need to win both games tomorrow to clinch a share of the program's seventh LSC title.

Both games will be broadcasted locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
