No. 10 Rambelles Ready for Lone Star Conference Championship

SAN ANGELO – The No. 10 Angelo State softball team enters the Lone Star Conference Championship as the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of Tarleton State and Texas Woman's in the semifinal on Friday at 4 p.m. at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.

The Rambelles are 37-14 overall and 19-6 in the LSC after ending the regular season on a five-game losing streak. It is the first time ASU has lost five straight games since 2006. The Rambelles still lead the league in average (.368), sacrifice flies (28) and stolen bases (93). Nationally, ASU is No. 2 in slugging percentage (.591) and on-base percentage (.640) while also being No. 3 in batting average and scoring (8.41 runs per game).

The Lone Star Conference Championship is a single elimination tournament. West Texas A&M and the Rambelles earned byes after finishing as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds. ASU has won five LSC Tournament titles since 2002 and made seven appearances in the final. The last time the Rambelles made the final was in 2012 while the last tournament title came in 2010.

The Rambelles were able to hit nine home runs and five doubles in the series with WT. Rachel Moore had the most home runs with three while Darian Dunn hit two. Morgan Spearman, Micherie Koria, Carly Peters and Kenedy Urbany all launched one home run this past weekend. The Rambeles are No. 9 nationally in home runs per game at 1.33 per game and have a total of 68 on the season.

Spearman hit .727 last weekend against West Texas A&M to improve her season average to. 527. Her season average is on pace to break not only the ASU single season record but also the LSC record. The senior scored six runs and broke the Lone Star Conference record for runs in a single season with 75 this season.  The Kennedale native is the conference leader in batting average, on-base percentage (.640), runs scored, hits (77) and doubles (18). She is also the national leader in on-base percentage at .640 and is in the No. 2 in batting average (.527) and runs scored per game (1.47) Spearman also extended her streak of reaching base safely to 44-straight games.

Dunn also had a record breaking weekend. The sophomore recorded eight RBIs breaking the LSC single season record for RBIs with 88. The record breaking hit was on a bases clearing triple in game one.

On the season, Dunn is hitting .399 with 12 doubles and 15 home runs. She has scored 51 runs and drawn 25 walks this season. The Frisco native is second on the team with a .761 slugging percentage and No. 3 in on-base percentage at .462.

Koria returned to the lineup after missing the Texas A&M-Kingsville series. The junior hit .417 over the weekend. The home run was the first of the season for Koria. The San Diego native is hitting .444, third in the LSC, with 9 doubles. She has scored 54 runs and batted in 36 runs. She leads the Rambelles with 27 stolen bases.

Megan Granado had a good weekend hitting .385. The junior is hitting .326 on the year and currently has a 15-game hitting streak. Granado had two doubles and scored two runs over the weekend. On the season, the Lubbock native has 12 doubles and 32 RBIs.

Moore's three home runs gives her 13 on the year. The junior has a .327 average with 46 RBIs and 35 runs scored.

Ambara Hill and Maddy McGarity used their speed to score runs this last weekend the duo scored four runs each. Hill is hitting .375 with 31 runs this season while McGarity has a .329 average with 23 runs scored.

Mary Kate McKay leads the Rambelles with a 3.41 earned-run average this season. She hs 11-4 on the year with 25 apperances. The senior has 47 strikeouts and is limiting opponents to a .276 batting average.

Sandra Serna has a 4.16 ERA and is 9-7 on thes season. The senior has thrown 96 innings and struck out 70 batters while also holding oppponents to a .263 avearge. 

Urbany is 17-3 on the season in the cirlce with a 3.70 ERA. She has thrown 12 complete games and leads ASU with 74 strike outs. The freshman is hitting .344 at the plate with 10 doubles and nine home runs. She has scored 31 runs and recorded 43 RBIs. 

Texas Woman's finished the regular season with a 33-16 record and 18-10 in the LSC. The Pioneers will be the No. 3 seed in the LSC Championship tournament this weekend. Kendra Sancet is leading TWU at the plate with a .437 average to go along with 20 home runs and 63 RBIs. Brandie Lander is 23-3 with a 2.62 earned-run average. She has struck out 154 batters on the season.

ASU swept the season series with TWU including an 8-7 come from behind victory at the LSC Showcase.

Tarleton State will be the No. 6 seed after finishing 20-29 overall and 10-17 in the LSC. The TexAnns are led by Katelyn Conlee's .386 average. She has 12 doubles and four home runs on the season. In the circle, Brenna Hennan is 10-13 with a 5.97 earned-run average.

The Rambelles took two of three from the TexAnns in Stephenville this season.

The winner of the semifinal game will advance to the final on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Schaeffer Park. The championship game will be televised and streamed on CSN Houston.

The Lone Star Conference will provide live stats and Comcast will have a live stream of all the games. The games will be broadcasted locally on the airwaves on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
