SAN ANGELO – The No. 7 Angelo State softball team kept its season alive with a 4-3 come from behind victory against Cameron and will play St. Mary's tomorrow at 2 p.m. for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Two Championship.
The Rambelles 41-15 were in a must-win situation against Cameron after falling to St. Mary's earlier in the day 5-0. Angelo State must win two games tomorrow against St. Mary's to advance to the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional.
Down 3-1 going into the top of the seventh,
Morgan Spearman got rung up on strikes for only the fourth time all season. Â
Micherie Koria responded with her first hit of the game with a single up the middle.
Darian Dunn stepped up and crushed the second pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run to tie the game at three.
Rachel Moore gave the Rambelles the lead with her 15
th home run of the year to right field.
Cameron made things interesting in seventh inning. The Aggies got a single and an error to put runners at first and second. Back-to-back fielder's choices put runners at the corners with two outs.
Kenedy Urbany threw a wild pitch that hit the backstop and
Megan Granado chased it down. The junior catcher tossed it to the freshman pitcher to end the game in dramatic fashion. Â
Spearman scored ASU's other run in the top of the first inning after a triple by Dunn for a quick 1-0 lead. The Aggies scored three in the bottom of the first for a 3-1 lead after one inning.
Urbany, who picked up her 21
st win of the season, only gave up four hits after the first inning. The Helotes native struck out three batters on the night.
The Rambelles were forced into the must-win situation after losing to St. Mary's 5-0.
ASU could only muster two hits against the Rattlers' Emily Brittain. St. Mary's scored four runs off
Mary Kate McKay in the second inning and one off Urbany in the fourth.
McKay was credited with her fifth loss of the year.
The Rambelles and Rattlers have each won three against each other this season. The game will be at 2 p.m. at Mayer Field and carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call. Â Â Â
