SAN ANGELO – The No. 11 Angelo State softball team will play six teams from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the WT Woodward Invitational this Friday through Sunday in Canyon.
The Rambelles are 6-0 for the first time since 2011 after hitting .393 as a team and limiting opponents to a 0.55 earned-run average. ASU will face RMAC opponents Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State-Pueblo, Colorado Mesa, Adams State, Chadron State and Metro State.
ASU used a potent pitching duo of
Brandy Marlett and
Kenedy Urbany. The pair limited teams to a .134 batting average while only allowing seven runs of which three were earned. Marlett, the LSC Pitcher of the Week, threw 22.0 innings and struck out 23 batters while not allowing an earned run. The freshman went 3-0 with a save in four appearances and did not allow more than two hits in any appearance. She had two shutouts and only gave up seven hits. Urbany, 2014 LSC Freshman of the Year, went 3-0 in three appearances and only gave up three earned runs. She held teams to a .172 batting average and threw one shutout. The Helotes native finished the weekend with six strikeouts and two complete games.
The Rambelles offense scored 43 runs over the first six games. ASU excelled on the base paths stealing 16-of-18 bases. A total of 15 difference ASU players scored a run and 11 recorded an RBI.
Madison Greenwell, Angelo State University, led the Rambelles to its first 6-0 start since 2011 with a team high .579 batting average. The freshman with 11-for-16 at the plate with one double and one triple in her first collegiate action. She scored six runs and batted in four more. She was perfect on the base paths going 6-for-6 in steals. The Flower Mound native ended the weekend with a .579 on-base percentage and a .737 slugging percentage.
Urbany had a stellar weekend at the plate as well. The sophomore hit .500 and led ASU with nine RBIs. She recorded two doubles with two home runs and was second on the team with a 1.000 slugging percentage. The Helotes native led the team with nine RBIs and 16 total bases.
Rachel Moore started the season off with two home runs at the plate and now has 24 for her career. She is one away from moving into No. 5 on the all-time list. The Katy native added two doubles and six RBIs at the plate with six walks.
Ambra Hill and
Micherie Koria used their speed to get on base. Hill hit .462 and Koria hit .400 over the weekend. Each scored four runs a piece while Koria added four RBIs. Hill stole five base and Koria swiped three.
Darian Dunn, the No. 7 career leader in RBIs, added five more to her total. The junior now has 139 RBIs. Dunn hit .375 over the weekend with two walks and one sacrifice hit. She is also No. 5 on the ASU career home run list with 25.
Ciara Sheppard hit .286 with one double and one RBI in her first collegiate action.
Tina Cisneros hit her first home run of the season and the seventh of her career at ASU. The senior added five RBIs in the six games.
Megan Granado used her plate discipline and led the Rambelles with seven walks over the weekend. She stole one base and had a double as well.
Lanie Robinson, who started three games, hit .429 with one double and one RBI.

Katlyn Herzog,
Camry Weinheimer,
Brooke Mangold,
Kelly Johnson and
Kylie Love all saw action as well. Weinheimer started two games at catcher and recorded her first two hits and two RBIs of her career. Donnelly's first hit drove on a run while Herzog had her first hit of the season against Colorado School of Mines.
The Rambelles first opponent of the weekend at 11:30 a.m. on Friday will be Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers went 1-5 at the ASU George McCorkle Classic including two losses to ASU.
The second game will have ASU facing Colorado State-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves are 3-3 on the season. ASU leads the all-time series 5-2 but CSU-Pueblo has won two of the last three games.
Angelo State will play Colorado Mesa at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday and follow it up with Adams State at 4 p.m. Colorado Mesa is 3-3 on the season but trail the all-time series 2-0 to the Rambelles. Adams State will be opening its season at the WT Woodward Invitational. The two teams have only met once with ASU winning 9-1 last season in Canyon.
The final day of the tournament the Rambelles will play Chadron State at 12:45 p.m. and Metro State at 3 p.m. The Eagles of Chadron State are 0-6 on the season and it will be the first ever meeting between the two programs. Metro State enters with a record of 4-2 on the year. The all-time series is tied a one each. The Roadrunners won last year's matchup 12-7 in Canyon.
