GOLDEN, Colorado – The No.24 Angelo State baseball team was swept (10-7, 5-2) in today's doubleheader with the Colorado School of Mines.
The Rams fall to 7-5 on the year with the pair of losses. ASU starting pitchers, Graylon Brown and Joey Wise, were both credited with a loss. In game one of the doubleheader the Rams team batting average was .413. They scored seven runs off of 12 hits and committed three errors in the field. ASU then recorded a .160 batting average during game two. In this game they score two run off of four hits and committed two errors. The Orediggers improved to 6-5 on the season with the pair of wins.
Angelo State got things started early in game one, tacking five runs to the board off of a Sam Kohler triple, a single from Jay Gonzalez and a double from Tyler Coolbaugh.  David Goggin also hit into a fielder's choice to score a run during this inning, giving the Rams a 5-0 lead. CSM then answered putting up 10 runs of its own over the following four and a half innings. It would not be until the top of the sixth that Coolbaugh would cap off the Rams scoring for the day by smashing a two run homer to make the final score 10-7.
During game one of the double header, Brown would throw four and one-third innings giving up nine runs off of seven hits and striking out two. Matt Shannon and Joe Hauser both entered the game in relief and gave up a combined one run off of three hits.
The Rams could not seem to get things rolling on the offensive side of the ball during the second a game as they only recorded four hits. These included a pair of doubles by Jarryd Klemm and Goggin, and a single by Coolbaugh.
In the second gaem of the day, Wise threw for two thirds of an inning and gave up two runs, before Shannon entered in relief and threw for the remainder of the game. He sat down 10 batters and gave up three unearned runs off of six hits.
The Rams return to the diamond with a chance to split the series in Golden on Sunday. Pitcher Kellen Rholl will take the mound for ASU, as the game four, first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. CST. Â
