No. 22 Rambelles Face No. 1 West Texas A&M in Canyon

SAN ANGELO – The No. 22 Angelo State softball team will head to Canyon to take on No. 1 West Texas A&M for a four game LSC series on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12.

The Rambelles are 18-5 on the season and 7-1 in the LSC. ASU has won eight of its last nine games and is 7-1 on the road. Angelo State is No. 3 in the LSC in hitting with a team average of .344 and is No. 2 in ERA at 2.99. ASU is the top fielding team in the LSC with a .978 fielding percentage.

"I think we are in good shape," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "We are sitting at 18-5 with a young group. We had a lot of unknowns at the start of the season but we have answered a lot of those this season. Team chemistry is great and everybody is contributing. It has been a fun group but we have our work cut out for us in the next month to month and a half. Hopefully we can rise to the challenge."

West Texas A&M has won 24 straight games and is ranked No.1 by the NFCA. The Lady Buffs are hitting .412 while maintaining a 2.07 team ERA. Stacey Ramirez leads WT with a .514 average and 38 hits. Kilee Halbert is 10-0 on the season with a 1.99 ERA.

"We are facing a quality opponent who plays extremely well at home," Scott said. "It is a place we are very familiar with. It is almost our home away from home because we play there so many times. Our players are comfortable and understand the field and atmosphere. They are getting quality pitching right now and they are hitting for more power right now."

Kenedy Urbany, the most recent LSC Hitter of the Week, leads the team with a .438 average with 32 hits. She leads the teams in home runs (4), RBIs (24) and walks (13). The Helotes native is currently on a nine game hit streak. She is also tops on the team with a .753 slugging percentage and a .549 on-base percentage.

Bailey Wallace has a .425 average with 31 hits and a team high 10 doubles. She has scored the most runs on the team with 29 and has been hit by nine pitches this season. The Rockwall native has scored 29 runs and is tops on the team with 11 multiple hit games. She has currently second on the team with a 14 game streak of reaching base safely.

Alexis Evans has reached base safely in 20 straight game and is hitting .410 on the season. She has 25 hits, two doubles and two home runs. The junior has driven in 15 runs and scored 18 on the season. She is one of three to draw at least 1- walks with 12.

Ambra Hill has hit .390 this season with 16 hits. The senior has two steals and drawn 11 walks on the year. She has scored 17 runs and is a perfect 10-for-10 stealing bases. She is second on the team with a .519 on-base percentage.

Madison Greenwell is hitting .357 in the leadoff position with 30 hits. She has six hits and a triple and scored 21 runs. The sophomore has driven in 17 runs and has recorded 11 walks. She is second on the team with nine stolen bases.

Kelly Johnson has recorded 16 hits and holds a .348 average. She has stolen three bases and scored 10 runs on the season. The Double Oak native has two doubles and two triples while driving in five RBIs.

Taegan Kirk has a .324 average with 22 hits. She has recorded five doubles and one home run. The Lubbock native has scored 14 runs and driven in 17 RBIs. She also have seven walks.

Becky Wilhelm is third on the team with 20 RBIs and is hitting .286. She has 14 hits, five doubles and one home run on the season.

Lanie Robinson and Brooke Mangold are both hitting .250 on the season. Robinson has 12 hits of which three are doubles while Mangold has four hits and has stolen five bases.

Morgan Hill has seven at-bats on the season but has a .429 average. She hit her first career home run on Saturday.

The Rambelles pitching staff has a 2.99 ERA on the season. Urbany is 9-3 on the season with a 3.23 ERA. She has struck out 43 batters on the season and thrown five complete games. She has one shutout and has started 12 games. Morgan Hill struck out a career high 10 strikeouts in her second win of the season. She is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched. The sophomore has only allowed nine earned runs and has one complete game. Marlett is 6-2 on the season and a team low 2.69 ERA. She has thrown four complete games while striking out 50 on the season. The Henderson, Nevada native is holding teams to a .209 batting average.

ASU will play at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
