SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team will face South Central Regional rival No. 9 St. Mary's for a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30 in San Antonio.
The Rambelles enter the doubleheader with a 21-14 overall record. ASU split a conference series with Tarleton State each taking two games this past weekend. Angelo State is No. 9 nationally in on-base percentage at .432 and No. 15 in fielding percentage a .972. The Rambelles are also No. 24 in scoring at 6.43 runs per game and No. 26 in doubles per game at 1.71.
"It has been a long rival with St. Mary's and a lot of great battles over the years," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Hopefully we can do it again. They have a great team and we are looking to get on track and string together some wins. They have three good pitchers and it should be an interesting battle."
St. Mary's is 28-6 on the season and ranked No. 9 by NFCA. The Rattlers are 9-1 in their last 10 games and are hitting .339 as a team. Ashley Mills leads the team in the circle with a 2.46 ERA and a perfect 8-0 record. Hannah Michel is tops on the team at the plate with a .438 average. She has 53 hits, 10 doubles, three triple and four home runs.
Bailey Wallace leads the Rambelles offense which is hitting .326 as a team. Wallace, the No. 6 hardest on in Division II, is hitting .398 on the season. She has only struck out one time and is No. 7 in hit by pitches with 14 on the season. The freshman is also No. 6 in sacrifice flies with four. The Rockwall native has 43 hits on the season with 12 doubles. She has recorded 25 RBIS and scored 33 runs on the team.
Kenedy Urbany is second on the team with a .389 average and is tops on the team with 44 hits. She has 10 doubles, one triple and a team high four home runs. The junior has driven in 27 runs and scored 34. She has the highest slugging percentage at .602 and is tied for second with a .500 on-base percentage. Urbany has also drawn 20 walk. The Helotes native is also 9-4 in the circle with a 3.30 ERA. She has thrown five compete games and struck out 51 this season.
Alexis Evans currently has reached base safely in 31 straight games. She is hitting .380 this season with 35 hits, three doubles and two home runs. She has scored 26 runs and batted in 21 RBIS. The junior leads the team with 26 walks and has a .911 fielding percentage this season.
Taegan Kirk has a .336 season average with 36 hits. She has recorded nine double and two home runs. She leads the team with 30 RBIs and scored 18 runs. The freshman has drawn nine walks on the season and thrown out six baserunners.
Madison Greenwell has the third most hits with 42 on the season and holds a .331 average at the plate. The eight doubles are fourth on the team. The sophomore has scored 28 runs and driven in 19 on the season. She has drawn 15 walks and stole 11 bases.
Ambra Hill has a .318 average on the season with 21 hits. She has 21 hits, one double and two triples. The Big Spring native has scored 20 runs while driving in 12. She also has 17 walks and a team high 13 stolen bases.
Becky Wilhelm is right behind Hill with a .317 average. She has 20 hits, six doubles and two home runs. The freshman has recorded 27 RBIs and scored nine runs.
Morgan Hill had a productive weekend recording three RBIs and going 3-for-4 in the two games she played in. The sophomore is hitting .476 on the season in 21 at bats. She has 10 hits, one double, one triple and one home run. She is 4-3 in the circle with a 3.70 ERA.
Kelly Johnson and Lanie Robinson both have double-digit hits. Johnson has 22 with three doubles and two doubles while Robinson has 16 hits and three doubles. Each has tallied at least 10 runs scored and Robinson has driven in 12 RBIs.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and game two will begin roughly around 6:30 p.m. in San Antonio.
