SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team host Midwestern State for a four game Lone Star Conference series on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 at Mayer Field. It will also be Youth Weekend with all kids eighth grade and under that wear a uniform will receive free admission to the games.
The Rambelles enter the series with a 22-15 overall record. Angelo State split a doubleheader with No. 9 St. Mary's on Wednesday night. ASU is No. 9 nationally in on-base percentage at .430 and No. 15 in fielding percentage a .973. The Rambelles are also No. 24 in scoring at 6.35 runs per game and No. 26 in doubles per game at 1.64. As a team, the offense is hitting .325 on the season and has a team ERA of 3.37. At Mayer Field, ASU is 10-4 this season.
All youth that attend will get to run the bases and receive autographs from the Rambelles after the games. All youth must be accompanied by an adult and adult ticket prices will be $7 at the gate. Friday's games are scheduled for 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. followed with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 & 4:30 p.m.
Midwestern State is 22-18 on the season and is 7-9 in conference play. The Mustangs hit .325 as a team and have a 4.14 ERA as a pitching staff. Katelyn Vinson leads the team with a .453 average and has hit nine doubles and 10 home runs. Makenzi Harris has the best ERA at 3.83 and a 7-3 record.
Bailey Wallace, the No. 6 hardest in Division II, is hitting .395 on the season. She has only struck out one time and is No. 7 in hit by pitches with 14 on the season. The freshman is also No. 6 in sacrifice flies with four. The Rockwall native has 45 hits on the season with 12 doubles. She has recorded 27 RBIs and scored 34 runs on the team. Wallace has also drawn 14 walks and stole six bases.
Kenedy Urbany is second on the team with a .380 average and is tops on the team with 46 hits. She has 10 doubles, one triple and a team high five home runs. Her fifth home run came in the seventh inning of game one against St. Mary's. The junior has driven in 30 runs and scored 35. She has the highest slugging percentage at .603 and is third on the team with a .486 on-base percentage. Urbany has also drawn 20 walks. The Helotes native picked up her first save of the season throwing three innings and only allowing one hit. She is 9-4 in the circle with a 3.17 ERA. She has thrown five compete games and struck out 58 this season.
Alexis Evans currently has reached base safely in 34 straight games. She is hitting .371 this season with 36 hits, three doubles and two home runs. She has scored 26 runs and batted in 21 RBIs. The junior leads the team with 28 walks and has a .991 fielding percentage this season. The Yuma native is tops on the team with a .512 on-base percentage.
Taegan Kirk has a .333 season average with 37 hits. She has recorded nine doubles and two home runs. She leads is tied for the team lead with 30 RBIs and has scored 18 runs. The freshman has drawn nine walks on the season and thrown out six baserunners.
Ambra Hill has a .324 average on the season with 22 hits, one double and two triples. The Big Spring native has scored 20 runs while driving in 12. She also has 18 walks and a team high 13 stolen bases. The senior is fourth on the team with a .465 on-base percentage.
Madison Greenwell has the third most hits with 43 on the season and holds a .321 average at the plate. The eight doubles are fourth on the team. The sophomore has scored 30 runs and driven in 19 on the season. She has drawn 17 walks and stole 12 bases.
Becky Wilhelm has a .304 average. She has 21 hits, six doubles and two home runs. The freshman has recorded 27 RBIs and scored 10 runs. She has also drawn 16 walks and has the third highest slugging percentage on the team at .478.
Morgan Hill is hitting .520 on the season in 25 at bats. She has 13 hits, two doubles, one triple and one home run. The Salado native has drawn two walks and holds a .571 on-base percentage. She is 4-4 in the circle with a 4.10 ERA and has struck out 41 batters.
Kelly Johnson and Lanie Robinson both have double-digit hits this season. Johnson has 22 with three doubles and two doubles while Robinson added three hits during the St. Mary's series and now has 19 hits and three doubles. Each has tallied at least 10 runs scored and Robinson has driven in 13 RBIs.
