Rambelles to Face Texas A&M-Commerce in First Round of LSC Tournament Championship

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team will face Texas A&M-Commerce in the first round of the LSC Tournament Championships on Friday, April 29 at 1:30 p.m. in Canyon.

The Rambelles are 35-20 on the season and finished as the No. 5 seed with a 17-15 conference record. ASU was 13-11 on the road and 2-3 in neutral sites game on the year. ASU No. 4 in batting average at .322 and second in the LSC in ERA at 3.07. The team still leads the LSC with a .973 fielding percentage. Nationally, Angelo State is No. 7 in on base percentage (.426) and No. 12 in fielding percentage. The .428 on base percentage is the fourth highest in a single season in ASU history.

Texas A&M-Commerce enters with a 36-16 record on the season and took the season series 3-1 over ASU. It will be the fifth meeting between ASU and Texas A&M-Commerce this season. The Lions are hitting .323 while the pitching staff is maintaining a 3.40 ERA.

The Rambelles have been to eight tournament finals, the most in the LSC, and won the most titles with six. The last tournament title came in 2012 and last final appearance was in 2014.

ASU in the circle has been led by Brandy Marlett, Kenedy Urbany and Morgan Hill. Marlett is 17-9 with two saves on the season with a 2.61 ERA. She has struck out a season and LSC high 171 batters which is the fifth most in a single season. She is five strikeouts away from having the third most in a single season. She is holding teams to a .221 batting average. The Henderson, Nevada native has shutout four opponents and thrown one no-hitter against Texas A&M-International.

Urbany and Hill have seen a dual role in the circle and at the plate. Urbany is 12-5 with a 3.16 ERA. She has thrown 110.2 innings and struck out 70 on the season. She also leads the team with a .393 average. The Helotes native leads the team in runs (51), doubles (14), home runs (11) and RBIs (48). She also is tops on the team with a .676 slugging percentage and .512 on base percentage. Urbany is also No. 2 in walks with 34 and hits with 68. The junior also has played 34 games in the outfield.

Morgan Hill has a 5-6 record while maintaining a 3.87 ERA. She has 56 strikeouts on the season with five complete games. She is hitting .395 with 38 at bats. She has 15 hits, three doubles, one triple and two home runs. The Rockwall native is third on the team with 10 steals.

Bailey Wallace, the No. 10 nationally hardest to strikeout, has a .378 average with 59 hits. She is No. 5 in the nation with 26 hit by pitches and has drawn 20 walks on the year. The freshman is second on the team with 13 doubles and has driven in 37 runs.

Madison Greenwell took the lead in hits after the Cameron series with 69 on the year. The sophomore is hitting. .356 with scoring 43 runs and 29 RBIs. The Flower Mound native has eight doubles and a team high five triples. Greenwell also has stolen 16 bases.

Alexis Evans is tops on the team with 38 walks on the season. The junior has a .327 average with 48 hits, six doubles and three home runs. She is fifth on the team with 31 RBIs and crossed the plate 34 times.

Lanie Robinson is fifth on the team in average with .312. She crushed a two-run home run in game two on Friday night against Cameron to break a tie. She has 39 hits and seven doubles to go along with the home run. She has scored 25 runs and driven in 25 as well.

Taegan Kirk has fourth most hits with 51 on the season and tied a team high 14 doubles. She has a .309 average and scored 25 times. The freshman has driven in 38 runs and has 12 walks on the season.

Brooke Mangold has 20 hits and scored 14 runs this season in 24 starts. The sophomore is hitting .308 on the season and has stolen nine bases.

Ambra Hill has stolen a team high 17 bases this season and drawn 23 walks. She is hitting .303 on the year with 27 hits, one doubles and two triples. The Big Spring native has scored 31 times and driven in 13 runs.

Becky Wilhelm is one of five Rambelles with at least 30 RBIs with a season total of 33. She has a .294 average with 32 hits, six double and three home runs.

If the Rambelles win, they will face No. 1 West Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening. The LSC Tournament Championship game will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.
