SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team will play a three-game Lone Star Conference road series in Odessa against UT Permian Basin starting on Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Rambelles (41-4, 18-3 LSC) are the first Division II program to reach the 40-win plateau. ASU is No. 2 in the nation in both ERA (1.39) and shutouts (17) and No. 8 in on base percentage (.428). Â Angelo State is hitting .313 as a team and scores 6.4 runs per game.
UTPB enters the series with an 8-33 record and 5-16 in the Lone Star Conference. The Falcons are hitting .246 as a team with an ERA of 8.80.
The Rambelle pitching staff continues to stifle opponents with its 1.39 ERA. The trio of Brandy Marlett, Kenedy Urbany and Morgan Hill are holding opponents to a .184 batting average and has only allowed 72 runs in 298.0 innings pitched. Urbany is No. 10 in Division II in ERA at 1.00. She is 15-1 on the year with 63 strikeouts, four shutouts and nine complete games.
Marlett is 12 strikeouts away from tying the ASU single season record held by Claudia Lopez. The junior is 21-3 on the season with a 1.26 ERA. She has 12 complete games, five shutouts and holds teams to a .148 ERA. Morgan Hill is 5-0 on the year with four saves. The four saves are second most nationally. She has struck out 49 batters in 49.1 inning pitched.
The ASU offense has recorded 359 hits on the year and scored 288 runs. The offense is led by freshman Courtney Barnhill, who has started all 45 games this season. She is the team leader in hits (53), home runs (10), runs scored (28), slugging percentage (.732) and on base percentage (529). The Lubbock native has reached base safely in eight straight games and hits .450 with runners in scoring position. Barnhill has also recorded 14 stolen bases and drawn 28 walks.
Taegan Kirk is tops on the team with 13 doubles and second in average at .347. She has recorded 41 hits and driven in a team-high 39 RBI. She has 14 multiple hit games and 11 multiple RBI games. The Lubbock native hits .357 with runners on base and .352 with runners in scoring position.
Madison Greenwell added another triple to her career record with her fifth of the season last week. Â Â She has a .345 average and 50 total hits. She has scored 29 runs and drawn 13 walks on the season. The Flower Mound native has also stolen nine bases and hit six doubles.
Bailey Wallace is tops on the team and No.4 in the nation with 24 hit-by-pitches. The sophomore has 36 hits on the year with two doubles and two home runs. She has scored the second most runs on the team with 35 and is tops on the team with 13 sacrifice bunts.
 Urbany has been steady at the plate as well. She has 39 hits, 10 doubles and seven home runs. The senior has a .312 average while scoring 30 runs and 28 RBI. The Helotes native has drawn 20 walks on the year and a .560 slugging percentage.
Amanda Ramage has a .300 average on the season with 12 hits. Two of her 12 hits are doubles and she has added one home run. She has scored seven runs and driven in seven.
Others contributing include Megan Gordon, Katlyn Herzog, Kelly Johnson, Alexis Evans, Brooke Mangold, Karina Rocha, Becky Wilhelm and Jackie Montejano. Gordon has a .444 average in 18 at-bats and has scored seven runs. Evans has recorded four doubles and five home runs. She has scored 18 runs and driven in 27 RBI. Mangold and Rocha each has 16 runs scored. Johnson is one of 10 Rambelles with at least 10 RBI.
