SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team will play its final non-conference doubleheader of the regular season hosting St. Edward's at Mayer Field on Wednesday, April 19 at 4 p.m.
The Rambelles are 44-4 on the season and 23-1 at Mayer Field. ASU is hitting .316 as a team and scoring 6.5 runs per game while maintaining a 1.44 ERA. St. Edward's enters with an 18-26 overall record. Angelo State took the first doubleheader on March 22nd winning 5-1 and 4-1.
The pitching staff of Kenedy Urbany, Brandy Marlett and Morgan Hill has limited opponents to scoring just 80 runs on the season. Urbany leads the team with an ERA of just 1.06 on the season and has a 16-1 record and a pair of saves this year. Marlett leads the team in wins with 22 on the years and has an ERA of just 1.20. The junior hurler also ranks first on the team and fifth in the nation with 216 strikeouts. Morgan Hill has an ERA of 2.83 this year and has earned six wins without a loss. Hill is also the save leader for the Rambelles, racking up five on the year.
Leading the way at the plate is freshman Courtney Barnhill, who is hitting just below the .400 mark for the year. Barnhill has 42 hits, including a team-leading 10 home runs, and 41 RBI on the year.
Sophomore Taegan Kirk has followed right behind Barnhill with a .373 batting average of her own. Starting the majority of the games behind the plate for the Rambelles, Kirk has 47 hits on the year, including seven home runs and a team-leading 16 doubles.
Bailey Wallace and Madison Greenwell are next in the hitting department with batting averages of .347 and .346, respectively. Wallace has scored the second most runs on the team this year with 39 and has racked up 20 RBI on her 41 hits as well. Greenwell has had a strong season in the ASU leadoff spot, getting on base at a .406 clip. The speedy outfielder leads the conference in triples with five and has 53 total hits this year.
Danae Bina has been an on-base machine for the Rambelles as well this year, drawing 16 walks and hitting .316.
Kenedy Urbany has been another source of power in the Angelo State lineup, belting a team-second nine home runs on the year while hitting .313. Urbany has also hit 10 doubles and walked 23 times.
The ASU leader in walks for the year, however, is Alexis Evans, who has taken a free pass 30 times. Evans has five home runs on 28 RBI for the season.
Amanda Ramage has hit .283Â for the season in 46 at-bats and Kelly Johnson has an average of .276 in her 33 games played. Brooke Mangold has also helped out the Rams with 17 RBI on the year.
Other contributors for the Rambelles include Karina Roacha, Kaitlyn Herzog, Becky Wilhelm, Megan Gordon, Heather Reatherford and Jacqueline Montejano. Gordon has a .444 average in 18 at-bats and has scored seven runs, while Rocha has scored 15 times on the year. Johnson is one of 10 Rambelles with at least 10 RBI.
