No. 1 Rambelles Clinch Trip to College Softball World Series with 6-2 Win Over Texas Woman's

SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team had to wait out a weather delay that turned into a postponement but made the wait worth it, winning the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional Championship over Texas Woman's 6-2 at Mayer Field to advance to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Salem, Virginia starting on Thursday, May 25.

The Rambelles (57-5) advance to the program's fifth NCAA Division II College World Series and the first since 2010. ASU will face Humboldt State in the first game of the national tournament on Thursday, May 25 at 11 a.m. EST / 10 a.m. CST.

The game started on Thursday afternoon as Texas Woman's scored an unearned run in the top of the first. The Rambelles tied the game in the top of the second with a RBI double from Amanda Ramage. As TWU warmed up to start the third inning inclement weather moved in and forced the game to be moved to Saturday.

With the game tied at 2, the Rambelles had the first chance to score in the seventh being the visiting team. A leadoff single by Madison Greenwell started the inning as she went 3-for-4 for the game. ASU had runners on first and second with two outs as Taegan Kirk stepped to the plate. The sophomore sent a ball past the shortstop that allowed Greenwell to score from second base for a 3-2 lead.

The inning continued as Alexis Evans sent the crowd into a frenzy with a towering three-run home run to centerfield. It is the senior's 10th home run of the season and increased the lead to 6-2.

Kenedy Urbany recorded the final three outs for her 21st win of the season after allowing only two hits and one run in 5.0 innings pitched.

ASU had restarted the game with Urbany in the circle in the bottom of the third tied at 1-1. The senior would keep TWU at bay until the sixth. She only allowed one hit through her first three innings.

Urbany helped her cause with a RBI double to score Bailey Wallace from first base.

The Pioneers were able to tie the game in the sixth inning with a solo home run from Tylia Sylestine. It is only the second home run Urbany has allowed all season. ASU responded in the seventh to clinch the regional championship.
