No. 1 Rambelles Set for College World Series Opener against Humboldt State

SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team is set for its first game of the NCAA Division II Softball World Series on Thursday, May 25 at 11 a.m. EST / 10 a.m. CST against Humboldt State at the Moyer Softball Complex in Salem, Virginia.

The Rambelles (57-5) are making their fifth trip to the College Softball World Series after appearances in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2010 all under head coach Travis Scott. ASU is 10-7 all-time at the CSWS and won the 2004 national title. Angelo State enters the tournament with a .310 batting average and an earned run average of 1.39. The ERA is No. 3 nationally and ASU also has the No. 3 on base percentage at .426.

Humboldt State, the winner of the West Region, is 43-13 overall on the season. The Jacks are hitting .292 on the season while maintain a 2.18 earned run average on the season.

Angelo State's pitching staff of Kenedy Urbany, Brandy Marlett and Morgan Hill has the No. 3 ERA in Division II and all three saw action in the NCAA Division II Super Regional. Urbany clinched the trip to Salem, Virginia pitching 4.0 innings after a rain delay. The senior is 21-1 on the season with a 1.17 ERA. She has only allowed 30 runs in 125.1 innings pitched. Urbany has 11 complete games and four shutouts to go along with two saves. Marlett is 28-4 with a 1.25 ERA. She has eight shutouts on the season and is limiting teams to a .154 batting average. She has a struck out an ASU single season record of 295 and is No. 6 nationally.  The duo of Urbany and Marlett are both in the top 20 in Division II in ERA and two of the top three in ASU single season history. Hill is 8-0 on the season and is tied for the ASU single season record with six saves. She has a 2.15 ERA and only allowed 26 runs in 75.0 innings pitched.

The Rambelle offense has been led by Courtney Barnhill's .381 average. She leads the team in runs scored (51), home runs (14), RBI (53), walks (38), slugging (.682) and on base percentage (.498). The Lubbock native has 17 stolen bases and 11 doubles on the year.

Madison Greenwell it tops on the team with 72 hits on the year. She has stolen 12 bases on the season while scoring 42 runs. She has a .355 average to go along with nine doubles and five triples.

Taegan Kirk, who has the third most doubles in a single season with 20 doubles, has 58 total hits. She has scored 40 runs and driven in 48 RBIs. The sophomore has also added seven home runs and drawn 15 walks. The Lubbock native had the game-winning RBI against TWU and has a season average of .337.

Bailey Wallace has the most hit-by-pitches (34) and sacrifice hits (19) in a single season in ASU history. The sophomore has a .331 average with 50 hits. She has four doubles and two home runs. She has scored 47 runs while driving in 21.

Urbany has been equally impressive at the plate as she has been in the circle. She is tied for the team lead with 14 home runs. The senior has 54 hits to go along with 13 doubles. She has scored 42 runs and driven in 47. She is tied with Barnhill for the team lead with 38 walks and is slugging .657.

Danae Bina has .318 average with 47 hits, nine doubles and one home run. She leads the team with 31 stolen bases. The Marion, Kansas, native has scored 39 runs and recorded 28 RBIs.

Amanda Ramage has 17 hits this season with three doubles and two home runs.

Brooke Mangold has 28 hits and 20 stolen bases on the season. The junior has scored 23 runs while driving in 21 RBIs.

Alexis Evans has 35 hits with 10 being home runs on the season. She has driven in 42 runs and scored 25 on the season to go along with 34 walks.

Other Rambelles contributing include Megan Gordon, Karina Rocha, Kelly Johnson, Heather Reatherford, Katlyn Herzog, Becky Wilhelm and Jacqueline Montejano. Reatherford and Johnson and scored 15 and 16 runs, respectively. Herzog has 10 RBI on the year.
