No. 1 Rambelles Ready to Host LSC Tournament Championship

SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team will play the winner of Tarleton State and Texas Woman's on Friday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. as the host of the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship held at Mayer Field.

The Ramebelles won the program's seventh LSC title with an overall record of 51-4 and 26-3 against LSC opponents. ASU is hitting .316 on the season with a 1.44 pitching staff ERA. Angelo State has won 16 straight games heading into the single elimination tournament. 

Tarleton State and Texas Woman's will face off at 1:30 p.m. at Mayer Field with the winner advancing. Tarleton State took two-of-three from ASU and it is the only LSC series that the Rambelles did not win. TWU lost all three matchups at Mayer Field earlier this season.

ASU has been led by its trio of pitchers in Brandy Marlett, Kenedy Urbany and Morgan Hill. The trio is No. 5 in total shutouts with 19 on the season. Marlett leads the LSC with a 26-3 record and 263 strikeouts. She has a 1.25 ERA which is second to only Urbany. Urbany is 18-1 with a LSC best 1.14 ERA. She has only allowed 28 runs of which 19 are earned. Hill is No. 5 in Division II in saves with six and is tied for the ASU single season record. She is 7-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 24 appearances.

The Rambelle offense is led by freshman Courtney Barnhill's .394 average. She leads the team in runs scored (48), RBI (48), home runs (12), walks (35), slugging percentage (.697) and on base percentage (.513). The Lubbock native has stolen 18 bases while recording 11 doubles.

Madison Greenwell has recorded the most hits this season with 64. She is hitting .360 with 11 nine doubles and five triples. She has scored 38 runs and stole 11 bases.

Taegan Kirk, No. 2 in the LSC with 18 doubles, has a .349 average on the season with 52 hits. She has belted seven home runs and drove in 46 RBI. The sophomore has scored 38 runs with a .611 slugging percentage.

Urbany has been equally impressive at the plate with a .331 average and 11 home runs. She is one home run away from tying Kacie Easley for the ASU career lead. She has added 12 doubles, 40 RBI and 38 runs scored this season. She is second on the team with a .629 slugging percentage and has drawn 31 walks.

Danae Bina has 43 hits on the season with eight doubles and one home run. The junior has a .326 average. She has drawn 19 walks and stolen a team-high 25 bases on the year.

Bailey Wallace leads the LSC in hit-by-pitches with 31 on the season. She has a .313 average with 42 hits, two doubles and two home runs. The sophomore has scored 44 runs and drove in 20 runs.

Alexis Evans has increased her home run total to eight on the season after another home run against Cameron. The senior is hitting .254 with 32 hits. She has scored 23 times and driven in 37 RBI. The Yuma, Arizona native has 33 walks and has recorded four doubles.

Other Rambelles contributing include Megan Gordon, Brooke Mangold, Amanda Ramage, Karina Rocha, Katlyn Herzog, Morgan Hill, Kelly Johnson, Becky Wilhelm, Heather Reatherford and Jackie Montejano. Ramage hit her second pinch hit home run against Cameron. She has 15 hits and scored 10 runs. Mangold has a .284 average and has scored 22 runs. She has 27 hits, five doubles and two home runs to go along with 18 stolen bases.

All four games on Friday games will be televised on RamTV Suddenlink Channel 106 starting at 11 a.m. The winner of Cameron and Texas A&M-Commerce will play West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. followed by Texas Woman's and Tarleton State at 1:30 p.m. The winner of the two semifinal games will play in the LSC Championship at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
