Belles look to extend winning streak, take on WNMU and UTPB this weekend

SAN ANGELO – Coming off of road victories at Midwestern State and Cameron this past weekend and riding a five game winning streak, the Angelo State volleyball team (14-4, 7-1 Lone Star Conference) will battle Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center this weekend.

"Championships team win on the road and we did that," Angelo State head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "When we're playing well, we're tough to beat."

The Belles have been excellent defensively all season, ranking first in the conference in opponent hitting percentage, second in opponent kills per set and fourth in blocks per game. Baleigh Allen has been a force at the net all season, recording 57 blocks, which leads the team by a wide margin. Sophia Berg and Sundara Chinn have also been great at the net all year, recording 42 and 41 blocks, respectively.

Sundara Chinn and Makenna Hanssen have led the Belles in digs up to this point, recording over 370 digs between them. Setter Meghan Parker and libero Chloe Robinson have been excellent as well, with both recording over 160 on the year, and Morgan Preston has contributed 125.

Offensively, the Belles have been led all season by Audrey Fragniere and Sundara Chinn. Fragniere has posted 186 kills and ranks eighth in the conference in kills per set, and Chinn has recorded 163 kills on the year. Anna Graham has come on strong lately and is now third on the team with 126 kills on a .241 hitting percentage, and Baleigh Allen is not far behind with 124 on a .316 hitting percentage, which ranks third in the Lone Star Conference.

Setter Meghan Parker has been steady all year and is tied for the conference lead in total assists with 667. She has also recorded 30 service aces and ranks first in the conference in aces per set.

Bailey Drum, Brianna Hudson, Makenzie Griffin, and Grace White have all been integral parts of the team this season. Drum has had a great past couple of weeks and now ranks sixth on the team in total kills with 69. Hudson has recorded 32 kills in just 25 sets played for an average of 1.28 per set. Griffin has excelled in limited playing time, recording 24 kills in just 14 sets played for an average of 1.71 per set, and White has posted 15 kills in 16 sets played.

Western New Mexico comes into Friday's match with a record of 7-10 (3-5 LSC). The Belles are 5-4 all time against the Mustangs.

UT Permian Basin comes into Saturday's contest with a record of 10-7 (5-4 LSC). The Belles are 9-6 all time against the Falcons.
