No. 5 Rambelles Host Western New Mexico on Saturday & Sunday

SAN ANGELO – The No. 5 Angelo State softball team will host Western New Mexico for a four game series starting on Saturday, Feb. 24 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and conclude on Sunday, Feb. 25 with a doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Rambelles are 13-1 overall and 3-0 in t LSC and riding an 11-game winning streak. ASU is averaging 7.0 runs per game while holding opponents to a .211 batting average. The pitching staff has a combined 1.43 earned run average and has only allowed 22 total runs of which 18 are earned.

The pitching staff, who is No. 6 in shutouts with five on the year, has the duo of Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett leading the way. They went 3-0 over the weekend and Hill was named LSC Pitcher of the Week. The senior did not allow a run in two appearances and struck out 15. On the season, Hill is 8-1 with a 0.63 ERA. She has struck out 48 batters in 44.1 innings pitched and only given up four earned runs.

Matlett is 4-0 on the year with a 1.63 ERA. She has thrown three complete games and earned one save. The Nevada native has only allowed nine run in 30.0 innings pitched and struck out 29.

Makayla Corbin and Meagan Hill both received action last weekend. Corbin has yet to allow a run in 2.1 innings of work while striking out two. Hill has struck out 11 and is 1-0 on the year in six appearances.

The offense has been led by Karina Rocha. The sophomore is No. 2 nationally in RBIs with 21 on the year. She is also No. 2 in home runs (7), No. 4 in slugging percentage (1.290) and No. 8 in total bases (40). The Buda native is hitting .452 on the year with 14 total hits and five doubles as well. She also leads the team with a .605 on base percentage and has drawn a team high 12 walks.

Bailey Wallace is currently on an eight game hitting streak and is second on the team in hits with 15. She has a .429 average and is tops on the team with 15 runs scored. She has recorded three doubles and hit her first home run of the season versus Texas A&M-Kingsville. She is slugging .600 and is second on the team with a .512 on-base percentage. The Rockwall native has stolen two bases and been hit by a pitch three times.

Madison Greenwell leads the team in hit with 18 on the season. She is averaging .400 at the plate with three doubles and one triple. She has scored 13 runs and stolen seven bases.

Taegan Kirk is second on the team in RBIs with 20 and No. 7 in Division II. She has recorded 14 hits with five doubles and two home runs. She is second on the team with a .650 slugging clip while holding a .405 on base percentage. The Lubbock native has drawn two walks and scored 12 times.

Courtney Barnhill is hitting .353 on the year with 12 hits, four doubles and two home runs. She has a .647 slugging percentage and she has stolen two bases on the year.

Mykayla Stroud recorded her second home run of the year against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The freshman has eight hits and a .267 batting average. She has eight total hits and two doubles on the season.

Danae Bina is second on the team with five stolen bases on the year and the team leader with five hit by pitches. She has eight hits, one double, one triple and one home run. She is the only player to record at least one hit in each category.

Mylonee Becerra has a .385 average after receiving three starts against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The freshman has five hits, one double and driven in three RBIs.

Brooke Mangold has six hits on the season and one double. She has scored four times and driven in five runs to go along with two stolen bases.

Other Rambelles that could see action this weekend include Taylor Fogle, Megan Gordon, Amanda Ramage, Jade Strother and Jacqueline Montejano.

Games will be carried locally on RamTV Suddenlink Channel 6.
