No. 9 Rambelles Host UTPB at Mayer Field

SAN ANGELO – The No. 9 Angelo State softball team will host UT-Permian Basin for a three-game Lone Star Conference series this Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at Mayer Field. Friday night ASU students will receive a free ASU Softball koozie courtesy of the ASU Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Office while supplies last.

The Rambelles are 33-6 and 17-4 in the LSC on the season and 18-2 at the friendly confines of Mayer Field. ASU is hitting .337 as a team and has the LSC's best ERA at 1.97. The offense is No. 8 in home runs per game while the pitching staff is No. 4 in Division II with 13 shutouts. The Falcons enter the series at 16-27 overall and 4-17 in the LSC.

The pitching staff has been led by Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett. Hill is 16-4 with a 1.54 ERA. She has thrown 118.1 innings and struck out 106 on the year. She holds opponents to a .209 batting average and has three shutouts on the year.

Marlett is 25 strikeouts away from 800 for her career and two wins from tying Kari Galm for most wins in a career at Angelo State. This season Marlett is 16-2 with a save. She has a 2.03 ERA in 106.2 innings pitched. The senior has struck out 113 batters and has thrown seven complete games.

Megan Hill and Makayla Corbin have thrown in relief this season. Hill has pitched in 10 games and is 1-0 with a 3.57 ERA. Corbin has eight appearances with one save. She has only allowed 12 hits in eight inning of work.

Madison Greenwell, who is No. 7 in Division II in hits, has 58 on the season. She has 265 for her career and is tied for fourth on the ASU career list. She is 10 hits away from tying Alix Dean for most in program history. She is hitting .423 to go along with eight doubles, one triple and a home run. The senior has scored 38 runs and drove in 25 on the year. The Flower Mound native is second on the team is stolen bases as well.

Bailey Wallace is second on the team in average at .418. She is the team leader in on base percentage at .507 and runs scored with 40. The junior has five doubles and three home runs to go along with 23 RBIs. She has drawn eight walks and been hit by a pitch 14 times this season. The Rockwall native has 11 stolen bases and is one of four players with at least 10 stolen bases.

Jade Strother has 25 hits in 36 games while maintain a .385 average. She has two doubles, one triple and one home run. Greenwell, Strother and Danae Bina each have recorded at least one double, one triple and one home run on the year. Strother has walked 14 times and has stolen seven bases.

Taegan Kirk leads the team in doubles (11) and RBIs (46). She has a .382 average with 26 runs scored and 45 total hits. She had a home run in every game against Midwestern State this past weekend. She has a .691 slugging percentage. The catcher has thrown out 10 batters while only allowing seven successful steals.

Danae Bina is tops on the team with 21 stolen bases. The senior has recorded 32 hits, three doubles, two triples and one home run. She has scored 28 runs and drove in 14. The Kansas native has 14 walks and has been hit 11 times.

Karina Rocha leads the team with 13 home runs while adding 30 hits and eight doubles. The sophomore has a team high 28 walks and a .811 slugging percentage. Rocha has driven in 38 RBIs and scored 27 times.

Mykayla Stroud has played in 35 games this season and has 23 hits. She has scored 13 times while driving in 15 on the season. The freshman has stolen eight bases as well.

Courtney Barnhill has 21 hits, five doubles and seven home runs on the season. The sophomore has driven in 23 runs while scoring 18. She has a .618 slugging percentage and has drawn 11 walks.

Brooke Mangold has 22 hits and 22 runs scored this season. She has recorded two doubles and tied for the team high with two triples. She has 11 walks including a bases loaded walk to score the winning run against Midwestern State.

Taylor Fogle has played in 30 games. She has 18 hits, five doubles and three homes runs. The California native has driven in 18 RBIs.

Several others have contributed off the bench including Heather Reatherford, Mylonee Becerra, Jacqueline Montejano, Amanda Ramage and Megan Gordon.

The games will be heard locally on 1260AM KKSA.
