AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of St. Edward's in Austin by scores of 6-2 and 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rambelles have now won 13 straight games including seven road games during the streak and are 41-6. ASU recorded 14 hits and 10 runs in the sweep while limiting the Hilltoppers (7-41) to four runs on 12 hits. Overall has won 11 straight road games dating back to the TWU series at the end of March andÂ
"I was proud of being able to win seven straight road games," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said after the games. "Fatigue was evident today but we were able to battle and get two wins. Courtney Barnhill was huge for us today with three home runs. We are ready to play in front of our home crowd and honoring our senior this weekend."
Courtney Barnhill started game one off with a bang. The sophomore crushed a pitch to dead center field for a solo home run to make it 1-0.
Just two innings later, Barnhill hit her second home run of the game again to dead center field to make it 2-0 in the third innings.
St. Edward's was able to get a run off starter Morgan Hill with a solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Rambelles opened the lead in the fifth. After two-straight walks, Taegan Kirk sent a ball to the right center gap for a two-RBI double. Danae Bina followed it up three batters later with a double to the left center gap to plate two runs to increase the lead to 6-1.
Morgan Hill would hand the ball over to her sister Meagan Hill after only allowed one run on five hits. Meagan Hill threw 2.0 innings but limited SEU to just one run on two hits for the final of 6-2.
The second game had Brandy Marlett limiting SEU to just four hits over the first six innings. She started the game by sitting down seven straight batters.
Kirk recorded her second double of the series to left center to start the second inning. Bina brought her home with her second double to right center for a 1-0 lead.
After a walk form Taylor Fogle, Megan Gordon used her speed to steal second and advanced to third on a fly ball. Bina laid down a bunt single for her second RBI of the game to make it 2-0.
Barnhill sent a ball over the center field fence for her third home run of the series to make it 3-0. The sophomore now has 13 on the season.
Kirk increased the lead to 4-0 after a RBI double to right center scored Bailey Wallace.
The Hilltoppers scored two runs off Maykayla Corbin but the freshman got a pair of fly balls to end the game at 4-2.
The Rambelles will return to Mayer Field for a three-game LSC series with Cameron starting on Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m. The team will honors its six seniors, Morgan Hill, Amanda Ramage, Madison Greenwell, Brandy Marlett, Danae Bina and Brooke Mangold on Saturday, April 25 prior to the start of the doubleheader at 1 p.m.
