Belles take on Javelinas Friday

SAN ANGELO – Coming off a week which saw the Belles go 2-1 on the road and beat West Texas A&M at The Box for only the second time in 10 years, the Angelo State volleyball team will battle Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday evening in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.

The Belles are 11-4 (4-1 Lone Star Conference) on the year after dropping a four set match to #20 Tarleton State and recording victories over Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M in five and four sets, respectively.

"We went on the road this past weekend to Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M; those are places we don't usually win and we came home 2-0," Angelo State head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "I was very proud of the mental toughness and grit that our team showed."

Halfway through the regular season, the Belles are holding strong defensively, ranking first in opponent hitting percentage and third in blocks per set. Baleigh Allen has set the tone at the net this season, recording 50 blocks through fifteen matches. She is followed by Sophia Berg, who has posted 42, and Sundara Chinn, who has posted 36. Audrey Fragniere and Anna Graham round out the top five with 24 and 18, respectively.

Sundara Chinn has paced the Belles with 154 digs on the season. She is closely followed by Makenna Hanssen, who has 153, and setter Meghan Parker, who has 136. Morgan Preston and Chloe Robinson round out the top five with 106 and 105, respectively.

Offensively, the Belles have been led by Audrey Fragniere and Sundara Chinn. Fragniere has posted 155 kills and Chinn has posted 127. Baleigh Allen has posted 95 on a .309 hitting percentage, which is good for fifth in the conference. Anna Graham is close behind with 93, and Sophia Berg rounds out the top five with 72.

Setter Meghan Parker has paced the team in assists with 536, which is good for second in the Lone Star Conference. She also leads the conference in service aces with 28.

Bailey Drum, Brianna Hudson, Grace White, and Makenzie Griffin have also been integral members of the Belles this season. Drum is coming off a week which saw her post 26 kills on a .328 hitting percentage, including a season high 12 kills in the win against WT.
