Rambelles Fall Prey to Home Run Fueled Lions

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Angelo State Rambelles entered their Saturday doubleheader against the Texas A&M – Commerce Lions looking for revenge after dropping the first game of the series in a hard fought battle Friday night.

Game 1

The Lions struck in familiar fashion during the top of the first inning with a deep solo home run to put them up early. Angelo State fought back with a single run of their own to counter the deep ball as Taegan Kirk lined a single to center field to bring in Courtney Barnhill.

The high power offense of both teams would remain present throughout the first half of the game as the Lions plated a single run in the second and were once again met with Rambelle opposition who plated four more runs with aggressive base running and timely hitting. The four run five hit inning started off with a Jade Strother single to shallow left center field followed by her stealing second. Avery Zeigler then drove in Strother with a single of her own to center field. After a beautiful sacrifice bunt from Megan Gordon, one walk, and three more singles including a two RBI ground ball up the middle from Kirk, the Rambelles were the owners of a 5-2 lead going into the top of the third.

The Lions entered Saturday with 61 homeruns on the season and would collect two more in the top of the third inning in the form of twin solo home runs to left center field. Makayla Corbin would then enter the game in relief for Meagan Hill to close out the inning. The visiting Commerce team struck again with another deep ball in the top of the fifth two bring in two runs and take a 6-5 lead.

Emily Otto would come in to close the game for Commerce and earn her first save of the year as Angelo State would not be able to overcome their one run deficit and ultimately fell 6-5.

Game 2

The visiting Lions came out hot in the second game of the day as well by putting up three runs in their first trip to the plate as a team. Much like the first game, Angelo State fought back with a Karina Rocha two run home run that almost cleared the second fence behind Mayer Field.

Texas A&M – Commerce stayed on the attack and tallied on single runs in the third and fourth inning while Emily Otto kept the Rambelles quiet at the plate until the bottom of the sixth inning. It was then that Taylor Fogle blasted another home run that brought Angelo State within two runs and made it a 5-3 game. The Lions would scratch two more runs to make the score 7-3 and that is how the day would end.

The Rambelles move to 24-13 overall and 10-10 in Lone Star Conference play as they head to Austin on Tuesday to face the St. Edward's in a doubleheader.
