SAN ANGELO – The Belles, after their longest layoff of the season, return to action this weekend with a trip to the Metroplex, facing Texas Woman's on Friday and DBU on Saturday.
The Belles are 14-2 on the season and 7-0 in conference play; along with UT Tyler (8-0 LSC), they are one of two undefeated teams left in LSC play.
The Belles rank ninth nationally in team blocks with 2.44 blocks per set and rank 10
th nationally in kills per set with 14.40 per set. As a team, the Belles are hitting .249 on the season.
Defensively, the Belles have held opponents to a .118 attack percentage and only allowed 10.12 opponent kills per set, best in the LSC.
Individually,
Kailyn Gilbreath and
Baleigh Allen are fourth and fifth in the LSC in attack percentage, with the seniors hitting .353 and .324, respectively. Additionally, Allen leads the conference with 1.37 blocks per set while Gilbreath is sixth in the conference with 146 kills.
In addition to Gilbreath,
Delaney Fuller,
Elsa Lamphere and
Sophia Berg all have over 120 kills on the season.
Both
Jaedyn Woolley and
Chloe Patton were named the conference's setter of the week and defensive player of the week this past week for their performances against Lubbock Christian.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Texas Woman's is 7-11 overall on the season and 3-5 in conference play, and they are currently in a three-way tie for 10
th place in the LSC standings.
The Pioneers have two players that lead their offensive efforts, with Elizabeth Ugbaja recording 104 kills on the season while Trixie Oche has buried 103 kills this season. Defensively, Monica Wood has a team-high 45.0 blocks while Oche has 44.0 on the season.
The Belles are 12-6 against the Pioneers under head coach
Chuck Waddington. The Belles won the last matchup in 2019, however, they have not won in Denton since 2016.
SCOUTING THE LADY PATRIOTS
DBU is 8-2 on the season and 6-2 in conference play; they currently sit fifth in the LSC standings.
The Lady Patriots' offense runs through Halee Van Poppel. The junior has 165 kills on the season, making her responsible for 33.7 percent of all DBU kills this season. Her 4.34 kills per set leads the LSC.
Van Poppel is also second on the team with 3.61 digs per set, behind libero Leah Palensky's 4.92 dig per set, third-best in the conference.
The Belles are 3-0 against DBU, but this weekend's matchup will represent the first time these two teams will meet in Dallas.
After this weekend, the Belles will be back at home to host Texas A&M-Commerce on October 22
nd, which will be "Dig Pink" night for the program, before hosting UT Tyler on October 23
rd.
