#1 Rams Sweep St. Mary's with Two Wins on Saturday

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team continues to turn in big performances as the Rams completed the series sweep over St. Mary's on Saturday, winning game one of the doubleheader 8-0 before winning 11-10 in game two of the day at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

Angelo State improves to 9-1 on the season and 5-1 in Lone Star Conference play. The Rams have now scored 10 or more runs in eight of the 10 games this season.

GAME ONE: Angelo State 8, St. Mary's 0

The Rams opened the day with a complete game shutout by lefty Benjamin Elder. He pitched nine innings while giving up only seven hits, two walks, and struck out four batters. This was his second straight complete-game shutout after allowing only one hit through seven innings against Wayland Baptist earlier this week.

Angelo State took the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs off of a throwing error before added three more runs in the third inning. Nick Seginowich hit an RBI single to right field to score Koby Kelton followed by two more hits from Parker Bramlett and Jordan Williams to go up 5-0.

The Rams added a single run in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings to close out the scoring.

Elder improves to 2-1 on the season and has now thrown 16 scoreless innings. Bramlett led the game with three hits followed by Seginowich with two.

GAME TWO: Angelo State 11, St. Mary's 10

The second game of the day saw much more action from both teams as the Rattlers struck first, scoring off a single to center field in the first inning.

Angelo State didn't waste time taking the lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning as Bramlett and Williams both singled to score a run before Bramlett stole home.

After St. Mary's added another run in the fifth, the Rams continued their offensive run, scoring three more with hits from Josh Elvir, Seginowich, and Aaron Walters.

Down 7-5, the Rattlers came alive in the eighth inning scoring five runs to go up 10-7.

In the bottom of the inning, the Rams scored one after hitting into a double play with the bases loaded, bringing up Elvir. The ASU career home run leader delivered once again, hitting a two-run blast to center field to tie the game at 10-10.

After holding the Rattlers scoreless in the top of the ninth, Jackson Hardy singled with a bunt to third base, scoring Bramlett for the walk-off win to close out the series.

Jesse Meyer pitched five innings while giving up three runs off of six hits while Carson Childers gets the decision after two innings of relief to go 1-0 on the season.

The Rams will make the short trip to Lubbock Christian next week as they take on the Chaps in a three-game series beginning Mar. 5.
