Top-Ranked Rams Clinch Series with 7-3 Win in Game Two

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team tallied its six straight victory as the Rams clinched the series against Texas A&M – Kingsville, winning game two 7-3 on Saturday at Nolan Ryan Field.
 
The Rams improve to 17-2 overall and 12-2 in Lone Star Conference action while the Javelinas move to 12-6, 11-6 LSC.
 
ASU jumped out to an early start, scoring three runs in the first inning. Nick Seginowich brought in the first run, hitting a single through the left side to score Josh Elvir who led off with a double. The Rams added another run on a passed ball before Kody Kelton tripled to bring in the third run.
 
The Javelinas got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, hitting a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 3-1.
 
After three scoreless innings, TAMUK tied the game in the fifth inning, scoring two runs off of sac bunt and a single past third base.
 
Angelo State quickly took the lead back in the top of the sixth, loading the bases before a hit by pitch brought in a run followed by a fielder's choice by Novak scored another run to make it 5-3.
 
Novak brought in two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, hitting a single to the right side of the field to score Jackson Hardy and Parker Bramlett for the final two runs. Novak finished with a game-high three RBIs while Seginowich, Kelton and Thomas Cain each tallied one.
 
On the mound, Benjamin Elder picked up his fourth win of the season after tossing five innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs. Carson Childers and Jake Rogers each threw two innings in relief, allowing two combined hits and one walk.
 
The Rams close out the series against the Javelinas tomorrow with game three beginning at 1 p.m.
