AUSTIN, Texas – the No. 23 Angelo State Rambelles split their doubleheader against the St. Edwards Hilltoppers as ASU defeated the Hilltoppers in game one, 10-5, while dropping game two, 3-1. The Rambelles fall to a 27-11 overall record with an 18-8 conference record.
Game One:
In the bottom of the first with
Makayla Corbin inside the circle for the Rambelles, Angelo States defense quickly took care of the Hilltopper offense as two batter lined out to the left fielder and the shortstop, while a caught foul ball from the catcher gave ASU the third out to bring their offense back to the batters box.
With two outs in the top of the third,
Madison Fernandez would be hit by a pitch and advanced to second as
Keilei Garcia was walked.
Jade Strother smacked a single into right field to register an RBI as Fernandez crossed home plate for the Rambelles and Garcia advanced to second to bring ASU to a 1-0 lead over St. Edwards.
Hatty Shope reached first on an error from the second baseman, advancing Strother to third and scoring Garcia to bring ASUs lead to 2-0 over St. Eds.
The Hilltoppers scored a run in the top of the third with two outs registered as ground ball hit to the second baseman for out two scored a run in the process. The Rambelles defense buckled down and a popped up ball to the second baseman gave ASU another chance at bat leading into the bottom of the fourth.
With bases loaded and two outs registered, Garcia would be walked to bring
Haylie Mitchell home and extend the Rambelles lead to 3-1 over the Hilltoppers.
The Hilltoppers tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth with two outs registered. A single scored two runs to tie the game up at 3-3, but an unassisted ground ball hit to the shortstop gave the Blue and Gold the third out they needed to bring their offense back into play and get their bats swinging.
The Rambelles offense came alive in the top of the sixth inning as the Rambelles scored six runs to take a six run lead over the Hilltoppers.
Maleya Burns came in to pinch run for Fernandez as Fernandez walked, advancing to second as Garcia walked as well. Both Garcia and Burns recorded stolen bases as Burns stole third to put herself into scoring position and Garcia stole second. Strother walked to load the bases up as Shope came up to bat.
Burns scored a run on a wild pitch thrown by St. Edwards, advancing Strother to second and Garcia into scoring position at third as Shope walked as well, bringing ASU to a 4-3 lead over St. Edwards.
Mykayla Stroud hit a single into right center field, registering two RBI as Garcia and Strother both crossed home plate to bring ASU to a 6-3 lead over St. Eds.
Ashton Dirner also hit a single, scoring Shope from third to extend the Rambelles lead to 7-3.
Ashlyn Lerma smacked a single up the middles of the field to register two RBI as Stroud and Dirner crossed the plate to bring the Blue and Gold to a lead of six over St. Edwards, 9-3.
Torrey Hogan, pitching relief, went three up and three out in the bottom of the sixth as she struck the first batter out looking, while the Rambelles defense took care of the other two outs as one batter popped up the shortstop, while the third out came from a fly ball out to the left fielder.
Stroud walked to first with two outs registered, advancing to second as Dirner smacked a single out to deep left field. Lerma smashed a single into center field for another RBI as Stroud scored from second and Dirner advanced to third to bring ASU to a 10-3 lead over St. Eds.
St. Edwards scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, scoring off of a triple into left center field and a double to left center field to trail the Rambelles by five, 10-5, but the Rambelles defense was too strong for the Hilltoppers as ASU defeated St. Edwards in game one, 10-5.

- Strother had four at-bats, scoring one run and registering two hits and one RBI for the Rambelles.
- Stroud had three at-bats, scoring two runs and registering one hit and two RBI against the Hilltoppers.

Game Two:
With two outs in the bottom of the first and Corbin back in the circle for the Angelo State, Corbin showed her skills as a pitcher as she struck the batter out swinging for the final out and keep the Hilltoppers from scoring with a runner on third.
Corbin showed her skills again in the bottom of the second as she struck the first two batters out, one swinging and the other looking, while the final out of the inning came from a pop up fly to the third baseman to give ASU another chance to get their offense going.
In the bottom of the third,
Genesis Armendariz came into pitch relief for Corbin with a runner on second. Armendariz walked her first runner, while the first out came from an unassisted grounder to the first baseman, advancing the runners to second and third. A single to right field scored two runs for the Hilltoppers to bring St. Edwards to a two run lead over ASU, 2-0.
The Hilltoppers managed to load the bases and scored their third run of the inning as a passed ball scored the runner on third to extend their lead to 3-0 over the Rambelles, but the Rambelles rallied behind Armendariz as she struck the next batter out looking for the second out. A grounder to the first baseman unassisted brought the third out to give the Blue and Gold another chance to get their bats going.
Neither team scored another run until the bottom of the seventh inning, where Fernandez smashed a solo home run over the center field fence to cut the Hilltoppers lead to two over Angelo State, 3-1. The Rambelles celebration would be cut short however as Garcia, Strother, and Shope would all be thrown out at first to bring about the end of the second game as St. Edwards claimed game two over Angelo State, 3-1, to split the doubleheader.
