SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team faced rematches against New Mexico Highlands and Texas A&M International at day two of the Angelo State Invitational presented by Bahlman Cleaners. In a copy of day one, the Rambelles picked up wins over the Cowgirls and the Dustdevils.
The Rambelles' game one win saw all of their scoring come in the first inning, with
Ashlyn Lerma scoring on a
Paxton Scheurer RBI single; Scheurer and
Madison Fernandez would score on a
Keilei Garcia triple before Garcia would score on a
Bailey Martinez RBI double.
Martinez has a team-high six doubles this season and is hitting .438, splitting time behind the plate and as the Rambelles' designated player.
Torrey Hogan and
Ashton McMillan would combine to shutout the Cowgirls. Hogan only allowed one hit over three innings of work while McMillan would pick up her second win of the season, only allowing two hits and four walks in four innings of relief.
Garcia would double to lead off the fourth inning to be the only Rambelle to record multiple hits in the first game.
The Rambelles' bats came to life against the Dustdevils, with the Rambelles jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning.
Lerma and
Lindsey Evans would single to set up Scheurer, who would double on the first pitch of the at-bat to left center to score a run. Evans and Scheurer crossed the plate on an
Ashlynn Box double, and Fernandez would match her teammates with an RBI double of her own.
After a pitching change, Garcia recorded her third extra-base hit with an RBI double; she would later score on a
Haylie Mitchell groundout to bring the run total to six.
Evans led off the next inning with a four-pitch walk, which allowed Scheurer to hit an opposite-field home run, her ninth home run of the season, which made the score 8-0.
Martinez would single with the bases loaded to drive in another run, and another Mitchell RBI groundout later in the inning would make it 10-0.
The Dustdevils would scratch a run off relief pitcher
Sierra Schottler in the fourth inning to avoid the shutout, but the score would stay at 10-1.
Genesis Armendariz picked up her sixth win of the season in the circle, only allowing two hits in three innings of work before Schottler pitched the final two innings in relief.
The Rambelles improve to 14-1 on the season; they close out the ASU Invitational tomorrow versus Texas A&M International.
