Conroe, Texas – The Angelo State softball team matched their results from yesterday, picking up a pair of wins over Rogers State and host Arkansas Tech to close their weekend with a 5-1 overall record.
In their opener, homeruns from Rogers State in the first and second innings saw the Rambelles in a 3-0 hole to the Hillcats; however, infield singles by
Haylie Mitchell and
Ashlyn Lerma preceded
Lindsey Evans' first homerun of the season to tie the ballgame.
Evans would score one inning later through a
Paxton Scheurer single to give the Rambelles a 4-3 lead; the Hillcats would match with a run of their own to even the score at 4-all.
An error by the Hillcats shortstop in the fifth inning saw the Rambelles plate a pair of runs for a 6-4 lead.
Lerma singled and Evans walked to lead off the sixth inning before Scheurer would homer on a full count to bring the score to 9-4 in favor of the Rambelles; the Hillcats would score on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and would muster a pair of runs in the final frame through back-to-back solo homeruns to bring the score to 9-7.
Torrey Hogan improves to 3-0 on the season, allowing seven runs and 10 hits in 6.2 innings of work, striking out four Hillcats.
Genesis Armendariz recorded the final out for her second save in as many days.
Game two was an offensive explosion for head coach
Travis Scott's squad, who left the yard five times to score 11 runs in five innings of work, with eight of nine batters in the starting lineup recording a hit; additionally, all 17 Rambelles that traveled for the weekend saw the field against the Golden Suns.
A second inning walk from
Madison Fernandez and a single from
Keilei Garcia put a pair of runners on base for
Ashlynn Box, who homered over the right-field fence for her first hit of the season.
Evans singled to lead off the third, and on the first pitch of her at-bat, Scheurer homered for the second time in as many games.
The next batter Fernandez would go back-to-back with her fellow corner infielder for her second homerun on the young season.
Three batters later,
Mykayla Stroud notched a two-run homerun to make the score 8-0.
Lerma and Evans led off the fourth inning with back-to-back singles before being driven home by another Scheurer homerun. For the day, the Rambelles' third baseman went 5-of-7 from the plate with, three homeruns and nine RBIs.
The Golden Suns would tally a consolation run in the fourth inning to bring the score to 11-1, where it would stay.
Armendariz picked up her second win of the season, allowing four hits and one run in five innings of work, striking out five Golden Sun batters.
The Rambelles finish the weekend with a 5-1 record. They are back in action on Friday to host the ASU George and Ola McCorkle Challenge at Mayer Field.
