SAN ANGELO – Coming off a weekend in which they won five of their six games to start the 2022 season, the Angelo State softball team opens their home schedule this weekend when they host the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge.
Joining the Rambelles this weekend at Mayer Field will be fellow LSC members St. Edward's, as well as East Central and Bethany College, with all three teams set to open their respective season this weekend in San Angelo.
The Rambelle offense homered 15 times in their opening six games; their 15 home runs and 2.50 home runs per game both lead the entire country in both categories.
The Rambelles also rank in the top ten nationally in hits (8
th), runs scored (4
th), and walks (5
th).
Paxton Scheurer, who is the reigning LSC Hitter of the Week, received the award courtesy of a six-homerun, 17 RBI-weekend that sees the third baseman lead the country in both categories. The Mansfield native has equal or more home runs than every single team in the LSC to this point.
Lindsey Evans, who scored on all six of Scheurer's home runs this weekend, leads the LSC with 11 hits on the season, also ranking eighth nationally in that category. The Corpus Christi native is fifth in the conference with a .550 batting average this season.
Haylie Mitchell (.471 batting average) and
Ashlyn Lerma (.421 batting average) both have eight hits on the season and have combined for seven of the Rambelles' nine stolen bases this season.
Torrey Hogan and
Genesis Armendariz have started all six games in the circle this season. Hogan is 3-0 in 15.2 innings of work this season while Armendariz is 2-1 with a pair of saves. Armendariz has a 1.19 ERA on the season with two complete games and has struck out 21 batters in 17.2 innings of work, with 12 strikeouts coming against No. 16 Southern Arkansas.
Following this weekend, the Rambelles will host another tournament next weekend with the Angelo State Invitational Presented by Bahlman Cleaners next Friday though Sunday.
