SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team's opening weekend of conference play ended with a pair of losses to West Texas A&M, with the visitors taking game one 5-1 in 12 innings before claiming the finale 11-5.
The Rambelles are now 8-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
The Lady Buffs scored in the third inning of game one through a Ruby Salzman double.
The Rambelles would not respond until the sixth inning, with a
Paxton Scheurer leadoff single eventually seeing pinch runner
Tatiana Trotter score on a Keliei Garcia single to tie the game.
Both teams battled until the 12
th inning when the visitors pushed across four runs.
Despite taking the loss,
Torrey Hogan battled inside the circle for the Rambelles, turning in 163 pitches across 45 Lady Buff batters. She threw 11.1 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out 12 batters.
The Rams jumped out to a hot start in game two.
Ashlyn Lerma led the Rambelles off with a double, and Scheurer drew a walk; both would score on RBI singles by
Lindsey Evans and Garcia.
Maleya Burns would deliver an RBI double to make the score 4-0.
The visitors would pull a run back in the second and two in the fourth to chip away at the lead.
Ashton McMillan's RBI single in the fifth would push the Rambelle lead to 5-3.
However, the Lady Buffs struck for four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the lead and the game.
The Rambelles have a quick turnaround, traveling to Odessa on Tuesday and Wednesday to take on UT Permian Basin.
