SAN ANGELO, Texas – The third-ranked Angelo State baseball team swept Saturday's doubleheader against UAFS, winning 16-1, and 6-0 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the pair of victories, the Rams improve to 16-3 overall on the year and in Lone Star Conference play.
GAME ONE: ASU 16, UAFS 1
The Rams opened the first inning with a run as
Weston Valasek hit a sac-fly to bring in
Austin Beck.
The scoring continued for the Rams in the second inning, putting up six more runs to take a 7-0 lead.
Kamden Kelton brought in two runs on a single up the middle before back-to-back doubles by Beck and Guerrero.
In the third inning, ASU poured on seven more runs as
Thomas Cain and Kelton both recorded two-RBI hits to extend the lead. Valasek hit an RBI double in the inning while
Tyler Boggs brought in another run on a single to left field.
On the mound for the Rams was
Kade Bragg who finished with two hits and one run in five innings of work to improve to 5-0 on the season. Pitching in relief was
Caleb Heuertz who threw two innings without giving up a hit.
Guerrero was four-for-four on the day while Kelton finished game one with four RBIs.
GAME TWO: ASU 6, UAFS 0
After a scoreless first inning by both teams, the Rams tallied two runs in the bottom of the second as
Justin Harris tripled to score
Jordan Williams before
Reese Johnson singled to left field for the second run.
ASU added another run in the third off an RBI single by Williams to make it 3-0.
Braxton Pearson started on the mound for the Rams, throwing four innings with no runs off five hits and two strikeouts.
In the fifth inning, the Rams extended their lead with three more runs as
Tripp Clark singled for an RBI before Cain hit a sacrifice fly and Boggs doubled down the right field line to give ASU a 6-0 advantage.
Earning his first save of the season was
Austin Teel who pitched three innings of relief, allowing only one hit with four strikeouts.
The Rams and Lions will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon with game four set for 1 p.m.
