Lawton, Okla. – The Angelo State softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Cameron on Friday afternoon, losing game one 4-1 before dropping game two 5-2.
The Aggies notched a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to open the scoring before scoring two more runs in the fourth inning.
The Rambelles' lone run came off the bat of senior outfielder
Maleya Burns, who led off the fifth inning with a solo home run over the left field fence, her third home run of the season.
Bailey Martinez,
Lindsey Evans, and Burns were the only Rambelles to record a hit, while
Keilei Garcia was the only Rambelle to reach base twice, doing so on a walk and a hit by pitch.
Cheyenne Floyd got the start inside the circle, going 4.2 innings and allowing four runs (two earned) while striking out four;
Torrey Hogan scattered two hits across a scoreless 1.1 innings in relief.
The Aggies jumped out to a 2-0 lead again in game two, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning.
The Rambelles' fifth-inning rally was sparked by
Layni Tanner, who singled up the middle before scoring on a
Tatiana Trotter double to make the scoreline 2-1.
However, the hosts would strike for three runs in the bottom part of the inning to keep the Rambelles at arms' length.
Burns led the seventh inning off with a triple, scoring on yet another Trotter RBI double.
Trotter and Tanner represented the only Rambelles to reach base multiple times in game two.
The Rambelles are 29-23 on the season and 21-20 in conference play; they close out their regular season tomorrow at 1 p.m. against the Aggies.
