Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Rambelles to Victory Over Javelinas

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State women's basketball team leaned on their defense, which forced 18 turnovers, to best Texas A&M - Kingsville, 58-53, Thursday evening inside the Junell Center - Stephens Arena.
 
The Rambelles improve to 3-3 overall on the season and move to 1-1 in Lone Star Conference action. The Javelinas fall to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 
 
40 Minute Rundown 
  • Briley Merket scored the first points of the game for the Rambelles after hitting a corner three.
  • Merket gave the Rambelles their first lead at the 8:32 marker of the first quarter when she went up for an up-and-under layup, giving the Rambelles a 5-3 lead. 
  • After the Javelinas scored the first bucket of the contest, the Rambelles went on an 11-0 run lasting 6:49 giving the Rambelles an 11-3 lead with 3:51 remaining. 
  • Landry Morrow scored the final bucket of the first quarter giving the Rambelles a 13-11 lead going into the second quarter. 
  • In the second quarter, the Javelinas would go on a 15-0 run lasting 6:59 giving them a ,33-22, lead going into halftime.
  • Keniah Williams scored the first bucket out of the break to bring the Rambelles deficit to nine, 33-24.
  • Abby Bala would score the last five points of the third quarter giving the Javelinas a 49-41 lead heading into the final quarter of action.
  • At the 5:50 marker of the fourth quarter, Keniah Williams would get tip in to bring the Belles deficit to one, 51-50.

  • Madi Lumsden would knock down four crucial free throws to bring the Rambelles lead to 56-52.
  • Morrow would knock down both of her free throws at the charity stripe giving the Rambelles a 58-53 victory.
