SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team opened Lone Star Conference with a 3-0 win over Midwestern on Thursday evening at Mayer Field.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when
Zoey De Baca stepped to the plate with two outs and runners of first and second. On a 1-1 count, the Rambelles' designated player singled to left field to drive in the first run of the game.
De Baca's base knock would represent the only hit for the Rambelles on the evening; however, after a three-up, three-down first inning, the Rambelles had baserunners in every inning after due to drawing seven walks and four hit by pitches.
Tatiana Trotter grounded into a fielder's choice to double the hosts' lead in the fifth inning, and
Carter Smith would draw a bases-loaded walk later in the inning to put the game at the final 3-0 scoreline.
Cheyenne Floyd picked up her nation-leading seventh victory on the season, throwing six shutout innings where she only allowed six hits and one walk while striking out six Mustangs.
Matie Wolkow only threw eight pitches to record the final three outs en route to picking up her third save of the season, tied for the most in Division II.
