No. 24 Rambelles Embark on Road Trip to Face St. Mary's

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team is on the road this weekend, traveling to San Antonio for an important series against St. Mary's.

The series begins with a single game on Saturday at 4 p.m. and ends with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles took two out of three games against Texas A&M-Kingsville this week, claiming games one and two in shutout victories before the Javelinas stormed back to avoid the sweep.

In game one, Carter Smith kicked off the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning; the Rambelles doubled their lead in the fifth through a bases-loaded walk drawn by Laylonna Applin. Cheyenne Floyd threw her second complete-game shutout for the Blue and Gold, only allowing two walks and five hits in seven innings.

An Averie Gunther single in the fourth inning of game two scored Tatiana Trotter for the game's only run. Matie Wolkow picked up her first win for ASU, allowing four hits and striking out four Javelinas in the complete-game shutout.

The Rambelles had a 4-1 lead after the opening inning in game three, thanks to RBI singles from Trotter and Zoey De Baca and capitalizing on a pair of Javelina defensive miscues. However, the Javelinas chipped away at the lead before building a three-run cushion for the win.

The Rambelles hit .293 as a team, averaging 4.9 runs per game. The Rambelles are second in Division II with 16 triples hit this season, which exceeds their total from a season ago. The Rambelles also rank third in the country, having been hit by 32 pitches this season.

Tatiana Trotter is seventh in the LSC with 28 RBI; she leads the LSC with five triples and ranks fifth nationally.

The Rambelles have a 2.18 team ERA, third-best in the LSC, and lead the league with six saves. They have struck out 173 batters in 202 innings, and opponents only hit .241 against the Rambelles, the fourth-best mark in the LSC.

Cheyenne Floyd leads Division II with 13 wins this season, exceeding her win total from a season ago, and is 11th in the country with 99 strikeouts. Matie Wolkow is second in the country with four saves this season.
