SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team closed out their regular season home schedule in emphatic fashion on Wednesday afternoon at Mayer Field, downing Texas A&M International 8-0 in a five-inning run rule.
The game was scoreless until the second inning, where
Zoey De Baca led off the frame with a solo home run to left field. An
Ashton Dirner sacrifice bunt drove in a run to make it 2-0 for the Rambelles after two innings.
A two-out rally in the third inning started by
Keilei Garcia being plunked by a pitch ended with another De Baca home run to left field, this time a two-run shot to make it 4-0.
De Baca's multi-homer performance is the first for the Rambelles since
Paxton Scheurer hit two against Western New Mexico on March 31
st of last year.

Ashton McMillan and
Layni Tanner led off the fourth inning, with
Ashton Dirner driving in McMillan on a sacrifice fly.
McMillan, who entered the series with two hits on the season, had two multi-hit games in this series while Dirner, who did not record an official at bat, drove in two runs across two plate appearances.
Averie Gunther's single up the middle plated Tanner before
Laylonna Applin's fifth home run of the season just stayed fair down the left field line to make it 8-0 for the Rambelles.
Cheyenne Floyd picked up her 20
th win of the season, throwing four shutout innings and only allowing two walks and one hit while striking out four Dustdevils.
Amelia Hatthorn threw the final inning in relief, allowing no runs on a hit.
Floyd becomes the first Rambelles pitcher since 2018 to record 20 wins in a single season.
The Rambelles improve to 34-12 on the season and 25-11 in LSC play; they close out their home schedule with a 25-3 record at Mayer Field.
The Rambelles are on the road this weekend to take on Lubbock Christian.
