No. 21 Rambelles Kick Off Final Homestand with Series Against Cameron

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team is home for their final homestand of the season, starting with Cameron this weekend at Mayer Field.

The series will start with the two teams meeting on Friday at 4 p.m. for a doubleheader before they close the series at 1 p.m. on Saturday. On Saturday, the Rambelles will also honor their four seniors—Keilei Garcia, Torrey Hogan, Ashton Dirner, and Katie Burris—before the series finale.

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles took two out of three games in Austin over the Easter weekend, dominating in games one and two before St. Edward's fought back to take game three.

Game one remained scoreless until an Averie Gunther RBI double in the fifth inning put the Rambelles ahead. They would score five runs in the seventh inning to claim a 6-0 win.

The Rambelles scored early and often in game two, winning 11-1 over the Hilltoppers. Carter Smith, Tatiana Trotter, Zoey De Baca, and Ashton Dirner each had multi-hit games, while nine different Rambelles drove in runs.

Defensive miscues plagued the Rambelles in game three as they committed four errors. Offensively, they struggled as they only mustered three hits and didn't score their lone run until the top of the seventh inning.

The Rambelles hit .288 as a team, averaging 4.8 runs per game. The Rambelles are second in Division II with 21 triples hit this season, more than doubling their total from a season ago. The Rambelles also rank eighth in the country, having been hit by 37 pitches this season. Averie Gunther has been plunked 15 times, the second-most in the country this season.

Trotter is seventh in the LSC with 35 RBI; she leads the country with eight triples this season, a new single-season record at Angelo State. De Baca leads the conference with five sacrifice flies this season.

The Rambelles have a 2.02 team ERA, third-best in the LSC, and lead the league with eight saves. They have struck out 211 batters in 263.1 innings, and opponents only hit .232 against the Rambelles, the third-best mark in the LSC.

Cheyenne Floyd is tied for second in Division II with 17 wins this season, more than twice her win total from a season ago, and is 25th in the country with 120 strikeouts.

Cameron is 24-14 on the season and 18-12 in LSC play. They are coming off a doubleheader yesterday in which they won both games against Southwestern Oklahoma State. This past LSC series, they took two out of three games from Texas A&M International in Laredo.

The Aggies are 13-6 on the road this season, the fourth-best mark in the LSC.

The Aggies opened their season in Wichita Falls, claiming non-conference wins over Northwest Missouri, Southwestern Oklahoma State, and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Last week, they split a non-conference doubleheader with Oklahoma Baptist.

Cameron is hitting .271 as a team, averaging 5.3 runs per contest. They have hit 45 home runs this season and are slugging .462. Additionally, they reach base at a .357 clip. Taylor Rowley leads the team with a .380 batting average and a .702 slugging percentage. Kaiden Boren leads the team with ten home runs and 29 runs driven in.

CU's pitching staff has a 3.49 ERA and has struck out 161 batters in 254.2 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .257 against the Aggies. Tindley Schmidgall leads the team with a 3.47 ERA, while Jocelyn Bright leads the team with ten wins inside the circle, 78 strikeouts, and 106.2 innings pitched.

Defensively, they own a .970 team fielding percentage. They have turned ten double plays this season and have thrown out a third of all attempted steals this season (16 caught stealing in 48 attempts).

LAST TIME VS. CU
As head coach, Travis Scott is 44-20 as head coach against the Aggies. Last season, the Rambelles closed their regular season in Lawton, suffering only their second sweep of the season. The Aggies have won the past six contests in the series; this marks the Aggies' first trip to San Angelo since the 2021 season.

UP NEXT
The Rambelles close out their home schedule with a midweek series against Texas A&M International next Tuesday and Wednesday.
