SAN ANGELO –
Sophomore Lindsey Mahone turned in a career-best 21-point performance, but the Rambelles were unable to overcome West Texas A&M's 24 points off the bench as Angelo State fell to the Lady Buffs, 65-56, Saturday evening at the Junell Center.

With the loss the Belles drop to 9-7 (2-2 LSC) on the season, while the Lady Buffs improve to 11-6 (4-0 LSC).

On top of Mahone's 21 points, the Corpus Christi native tallied nine rebounds, four steals and an assist in the contest. Senior Camille Perkins poured in 16 points, three boards and two steals for the Belles in the setback.

The first half begun as a nail-biter as the LSC foes traded points in the first 11 minutes of the half. However, Mahone's jumper to tie the game at 10 at the 11:18 mark would be the last field goal for the Belles for nearly eight minutes. In those crucial eight minutes, the Lady Buffs managed to take a 22-10 lead on six points by Ashley Leven and four points by Megan McLain.

The gritty Rambelles would not let that deter them from mounting a comeback. Mahone got the Belles back on the board when she sunk a pair of free throws with 4:19 left in the first half. Junior Paige Weishuhn followed suit with a lay-up (14-22). The Belles were able to make it a one possession game as Mahone hit two more free throws (19-22).

With the game within reach, the Belles' defense awoke and held the Lady Buffs scoreless for two and a half minutes. The first half closed just as it had begun, with the two squads matching each other point for point and when the time expired, West Texas A&M took a three point lead (28-25) into the locker room.

The second half started much like the first as the game remained close. Perkins closed the gap as she laid it in to even the score at 32. However, the tie would not last long as West Texas A&M's Jamie Simmons sunk the first of two free throws to give the Lady Buffs a one-point advantage (33-32). The Lady Buffs continued to build on their lead pushing it to as many as 13 points (62-49).

Despite the Belles' efforts to mount another comeback, their rally fell short as they dropped a 65-56 contest to the Lady Buffs.

West Texas A&M was led by Simmons and Ariel Robertson who each registered 18 points. Simmons added eight rebounds, two assists and one block, while Robertson recorded six rebounds, three assists and a single block. Leven tallied 14 points, five boards, three steals and two blocks for the Lady Buffs.

Angelo State's next action is a Lone Star Conference match-up against Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M., Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. (Central).
